Paddleboarding tours on Lake Bacalar.
Mar-2019 update: not friendly to overlanders looking for free place to camp/park!!!
Paul is an expat from Canada. He is an awesome and super friendly guy. He offers tours across the lake. If you've never done stand up paddle boarding before he offers lessons and is a great teacher! His rate is 500mxn per person and it is a GREAT deal. Paul is very knowledgeable and passionate about the lake. The tours usually take about 2 to 2.5 hours starting around 8am. He offers you coffee and toast and/or fruit before hand. You can find him on Facebook at Paddle Bacalar. We would highly recommend it!
To get to his place, drive through the Balenario. You'll see a wooden gate that enters his property.
sidenote: He may soon be taking over the Balenario and has some big dreams for sprucing the place up. Next time we're in the area we are definitely going to be coming back to see the improvements he has made!
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Not friendly to overlanders who look for free places. After not feeling comfortable with the free campsite in town in IOverlander, we drove around town looking for another. On this side of town, we stopped to ask a local (in Spanish) about the lake access on this side of town and south.
A guerro couple walked close by and could be heard commenting about how they hate overlanders and how they destroy everything. They entered a place at these coordinates.
I wouldn’t recommend this business at all...
Report Check-InWe stayed at the Balneario right next to Paddle Bacalar for a couple nights during which we met Paul. As previous poster mentioned, very friendly guy who runs affordable paddle Boarding and boat tours. We went on both and it was great. We stuck around for an extra 4 days :)
