Chile
September 2023- This is no longer a bookstore!
—————————————————————
If you love books, you have to visit this place. It‘s the only bookstore around San Pedro de Atacama and the first bookstore in a rural region in Chile. The location is very idyllic and there is a great and varied selection of books. Most of them are of course in Spanish, but there are also a few in English. But what makes this bookstore really outstanding, is the very welcoming atmosphere. Visitors are not only offered free water, coffee or tea, it‘s also possible to visit the adjacent house and garden on a short guided tour. At this tour, you will learn more about the idea and the concept of the bookstore as well as the architecture and the materials that were used to build everything.
In our case, Mauricio, editor and cultural manager of the Librería del Desierto, did an outstanding job. We really enjoyed our visit.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
This is no longer a bookshop. This is more of a publishing house. We did walk away with a kids book based on the indigenous culture and location of the Atacama desert (free) and our little one enjoyed playing with the editors kids, but just to be clear since the pandemic, he no longer has a bookstore.
Report Check-InAmazing place. Really love the buena onda. Left with a small book about a trip in the dessert
