MODERATOR NOTE: Place removed because camping is illegal here. Signs posted and enforced
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
There are no camping signs all over and a ranger patrols all over there.you can fish and day camp but no overnight.
Report Check-InThis place is permanently closed.
Report Check-InUnfortunately, this nicely situated stocked lake is now off limits for overnight camping, per the local BLM office. As usual, it was people living there that ruined it for all of us. It was a great place to stay while in Yuma, and I've enjoyed many a fresh fish caught in the lake.
Report Check-InWas just posted on Reddit that it was closed to overnight camping. https://www.reddit.com/r/boondocking/comments/1834paz/fortuna_pond_closed/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1
Report Check-InClosed! Pulled in and saw “no overnight camping” signs at the entrances.
That sucks! This was one of my favorite spots. Not sure why or how long it will last.
The GPS coordinates for this place are not precise. From E County 7 1/2 St there are three access roads: the east one has a big sign no camping beyond this point. The middle one leads to the day use area. The west one circles the lake, and gives access to the campsites. Descending to the bank with the Campsites is sandy and the road to the campsites is sandy. If you have a heavy, 2WD van like mine, I wouldn’t risk it.
Report Check-InAs of 11/19/23 there is an official sign saying “no overnight stay”. There wasn’t anyone camping anywhere around the pond, while it was mega-packed last year when I camped there. So should be marked as closed.
Report Check-InNice place close to Yuma. Pretty clean, pit toilet, garbage container, possible fishing in the pond. This is a reservoir for the agriculture nearby, so water is renewed. All the area is sandy.
Report Check-InNice and clean place on a Sandy base. Close to Yuma, fishing possible in the pond. Water is a reservoir for the agricultural around, so water is renew
Report Check-Inlove this little oasis!!! spots along the lake and the birdsm are awesome no
Report Check-InClean small pond. My only complaint would be the air traffic is terrible. Helicopters late into the night directly overhead making it difficult to sleep.
Report Check-InThe vibes here are great! Tons of rigs and friendly people. I snagged a spot in the trees which isn’t private, but it feels like I have my own space unlike the many rv’s lining the pond. For being in the desert, this feels like a little tropical paradise
Report Check-InVery nice free campground next to a big pond with good birds (we are birders). Lots of campers but little or no noise. Porta potty was clean, located next to dumpster.
Report Check-InThere is an outer loop road which allows you to see the lower loop by the lake, which is where most of the camping is. Opportunities to camp along the lake, or in the trees on the outside of the loop. Road along the lake has some low hanging branches, so not great for big rigs.
One portapottie, one dumpster.
There are definitely some premium spots here if you time it right. We'll probably only stay one night as our spot is just "ok"
The nicest BLM land we've stayed on. Surrounded by farm land. Downside to that is the propane cannons farmers use to scare off birds from their crops. Sounds like gunshots all day and night. Otherwise, gorgeous pond with wildlife, dozens of camping areas by the water, under the trees or among the grass. Lots of campers here, people are friendly.
Report Check-InGreat location!! December 13 2022 we pulled in after dark. Took the first spot that we found and hunkered down for an amazingly quiet night. Much to our surprise when we woke up, there are probably 30 or so dispersed campers around the small lake. Loads of wildlife here and very scenic views all around.
Report Check-InSmall water in woodland in the middle of farmland. avoid weekends in peak times but it's a sweet spot. dirt track access is good but arrive daytime first time as there are steep drop offs.
Report Check-InThe original coordinates took me to a spot on a dirt road near the Gila River. Fortuna Pond was about 1.5 miles from that location. Use this one to find the pond.
Report Check-InMore accurate coordinates. The other google maps took me to nowhere
Report Check-InSpent a Friday night here in 170 wb Sprinter. Easy access on a dirt road. I parked near the pond but not immediately adjacent as some of the branches are quite low. Some people fishing in pond. Fine T-Mobile service for calls and slow data. I’d stay here again.
Report Check-InI stand corrected on my last review. Very spotty ATT service. Good Verizon though!!!
Report Check-InDecent place to stay for a few nights. Reallllllly hot during the day so definitely park in a shady area. Good enough ATT and Verizon service to work. Clean for the most part. Really dusty. Saw a little girl and her grandma swimming in the lake this morning so I guess the water is safe and clean enough to get in.
Report Check-InStayed here last nice and it was pretty busy, 25+ rigs of all types including a converted city bus and a handful of tents. We found a nice spot in the trees with a view of the water and a fire pit. Pretty clean overall but we still filled a couple of trash bags, lots of unburied toilet paper :( and some old porno mags. Dumpster and porta-potty were full for the most part. Lots of wood to burn in large piles near the road but you will need a saw for most of it. There were also three kittens and a mama cat hanging out in our spot
Report Check-InLots of little spots to camp around a beautiful little pond in the middle of the desert. Quiet at night with the occasional sound of a train going by, but the train sound isn’t loud.
Report Check-In3 mile gravel road leading into here. just empty land to park. limited to 14 days.
Report Check-InThere is a small lake with a bunch of places to camp around it. There were some spots in the shade and others that were more open. The spots in the shade were under the trees and the open ones were closer to the water. There were a lot of people there and the portable toilets were full to the brim. The spot we had was beautiful and large enough for several campers.
Report Check-InBeautiful spot. We were there over Presidents’ Day weekend and still had plenty of spots. About a mile of a very good dirt road into the lake.
Report Check-InLake near Yuma. trash and water nearby. trash dumps on Thursdays. excellent Verizon cell service.
Report Check-InOK place to stay for one night. Kind of trashy with lots of garbage and toilet paper in the bushes. I would NOT recommend staying here if rain is in the forecast and you don't have 4WD. The rain today washed out three main exit roads. Coincidentally we had rented a 4WD truck for the day so we were able to travel the backcountry roads to find a safe way to get our 2WD van out.
Report Check-InNice area around pond/lake. Maybe 30 Rv's parked. Not much privacy but its an amazing change from the desert. 2/3 bars of verizon- no issues checking mail or youtube.
Report Check-InSmall pond with many rushes and many RVs! Quite surprising to see this many people here, but it is obviously peak season in Yuma. There are a few miles of decent gravel road to get here. Lots of spaces around the pond some sunny and some shady, and some spots good for tents. It was crowded but I found a space by the water. Garbage service and a bathroom that was unusable. No T-Mobile cell service. Noisy night with low flying airplanes and helicopters until after midnight.
Report Check-InWonderful place, but unfortunately the potential quietness was spoiled by a noise concert (2-3 generators) all evening long. Can't understand those people, who belong in RV parks from my perspective.
Report Check-InDispersed camping all around Fortuna Pond with some sites under trees and others in the sun. Many campers were there at our visit but we found a private place and it was quiet and clean.
Report Check-InCool little pond that provides a nice place to boondock. Depending on day, RV’s and tents surround pond. Quiet and heard coyotes at night. Oasis near Yuma.
Report Check-InJust a few here mid-week. MapsMe routed me through a State Property No Trespassing entrance. After some consideration I ignored the sign. There has to be other access points - it's BLM land.
As others have said, a nice place.
Report Check-InSecret Normad stop. Fishing if u have a license. 30 - 40 sites surrounding pond. 50% Sun sites 50 % beautiful shade wood sites.
In the sky in the evening u may be visiting by airplane or helicopter crop dusters or lit up raining down pesticides. Not near the campsites but close so you can c the cropdudter make a number of passes.
Report Check-Inlots of rvs. seems like a fine place. Access road is a wash board, be aware. worth it. left when the mobile discoteques started pouring in for the weekend
Report Check-InThe area was nice, in well kept condition. The cattails along the pond were thick and in need of a trim, which BLM does on occasion. There is nice signage regarding types and limits of fish. Catfish, largemouth, trout, grass carp. The state record grass carp was caught here. Weekdays you might have the whole place to yourself. Nice stop if you’re just passing through.
Report Check-InExcellent free no frills BLM camping. Lots of campers here on a Friday night but still had a nice quiet night. Sunrise over the pond is amazing!
