Right at the lagoon with beautiful flamingos. Fantastic sunset, awesome night sky and sunrise. Not hidden but no one around. Wind died down with sunset, no wind during night and in the morning. It’s only one of many spots at the salar. You can hide from the strong afternoon winds further up the hill or at some ruins (C157). One of the trails down to the shore starts from there. Coming from Salar de Maricunga direction Chanaral (C173) take the indicated turn into C157 along the west side of the salar. No need for 4x4 for the roads C173 & C157, but suggested for the trails down to the shore.

Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Following the track you can find some old muddy and brick buildings which are not in use anymore but high enough to make a good shelter from the wind.
Report Check-InAs described. Really, really cool place to camp with the flamingos right in front of you.
Report Check-InWe got a hint from the Aduana Chile to visit this great Salar while waiting the opening of the Paso San Francisco. They mentioned the ruins, about 750m south-west from this lagoon. It is just below a view-point and offers very good wind protection. Suitable for tents and big rigs.. Two dunkies and a dozen guanacos live there. Of course, the view is not that fantastic as direct from the lagoon, but it is a short walk. We saw about 20 flamingos and some gooses. We met mining people who warned us to visit the Termas de Juncalito: very bad road, snow and ice, the water not very warm.
