Description

Consider carefully the route you will take south as the road from Huehuetenango to Quetzaltenango (Xela) is only 60 miles but took 5 hours to travel in a Sprinter camper. Serious pot holes (worse than imaginable), pavement wash-outs, unmarked topes in shadows, uneven pavement (6-8" frame benders) and sections of no pavement and only small rocks.

Update: road is typical

Latest Check-Ins

This road considering may as well be removed. This road is fine.

Report Check-In

Most of the road is o.k.
There is pretty bad pothole sections but it took us nowhere near 5h. Realistically around 2h. Just take it easy and drive it in daylight.

Report Check-In

Rode from Quetzaltenango to the border today, a distance of ~ 166 kms. Bad roads indeed, potholed and patchy. A few short sections with gravel. Spent 4,5 hours on the total. Road is bad - but far from the worst I have gone through. Biggest problem is very slow moving traffic.

Report Check-In

Crossed from Mexico into Guatemala from here at 8am and made it to lake Atitlan (pasajcap on IOverlander in San Marcos) at 3pm in a long ford transit camper. This included 50 minutes to cross boarder and a quick stop for lunch. The road is now perfectly fine and is about 70% newly paved. Now a good road!

Report Check-In

Road to Xela. Most of it has been repeated. Only a section of 10-20km remains really bad with lot of potholes But in general good/average condition.
