Yup still a military checkpoint. Traffic backed up. Waved our US plated vehicle through. No problemo.

northbound only, there was some police on the southbound side but no barrage / checkpoint.

Checked our car briefly. Friendly asked where we have been and where we are going. After 5 minutes we could leave.

Checked our front seat and bags. Our Spanish is limited and they had a guy that spoke fluent English and was somewhat familiar with where we are from (Sacramento, CA). Only my husband who was driving exited the vehicle. Me, my 2 kids, and my dog stayed put. Seemed fairly quick and routine.

Military checkpoint - pulled aside - x-rayed our “suitcases” but he was just going through the motions . . . Very pleasant young soldier- used google translate to converse. . . He gave our dog “loves” and we gave him a cold coke 👏

good vibes, an officer entered the van, he asked us to stay inside and show him and he checked a lot, he asked us to open many drawers and compartments, they look for drugs and weapons. He asked us about the trip and let us go.

We were stopped heading north along with many other gringos. Basically they just looked in the front seat and then gave us the ok to continue.

okay this time pulled over then there was a bunch of confusion trying to find someone who spoke English. the guys seemed a little surprised we were pulled over. they finally said "go".

Inspections! Said we are headed to Phoenix. Our car only. Complete X-ray inspection for some. This more commonly for buses.

Checkpoint is only towards north. If you are driving south, there is no checkpoint.
