Just pull off to the unpaved road at least one mile and you can camp for free. Lots of great places! Even possible with 2WD.
Very hard to find it after dark.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Nice place, very quiet. There’s a few campsites around here, don’t drive over the holes in the walls if you want to camp. The last stop is at the holes in the walls and that’s it. There’s just a Uturn in the end don’t ask me how I knew it😄
Report Check-InI had site H3 which was arbitrarily assigned to me when I visited the kiosk at Stovepipe Wells. I didn’t go further up the road but sites H2 and H1 are much better since H3 is hemmed in and not level.
Report Check-InWe park in one of the 6 spots. Very quiet, nobody this night but it was very warm. I wouldn’t recommend to go there from now as temperatures are getting higher. Perfect place to visit Death Valley.
Report Check-In6 sites available, free permit required from NP visitor centre. Site 6 was good with canyon walls to block the sun, as the temperature that day was 41C. I wouldn't travel beyond site 6 without a high clearance vehicle.
Report Check-InIt’s not closed, but you do need a permit to camp here and echo canyon (signs posted). There are 6 marked campsites and you cannot camp outside of those sites. Permits can be obtained at the furnace creek visitors center. Nice place, insane stars, some traffic during the day from people visiting hole-in-the-wall. Someone did swipe my camp table and water jug though, so secure your belongings if you leave camp.
Report Check-InEasy to get find a place for camping, just drive down the dirt road for a bit. Great views. Relatively level, a bit windy, sleeping in a tent was still possible. But it was really warm still at night. When the moon shines it’s also possible to use the road after sunrise.
Report Check-InWe drove in with a 2wd van with no problem. Camped about 1/4 mile in front of the Hole in the Wall. Nice views through the gap, otherwise it’s just a dry gravel wash with fairly tall moraines on both sides. Very peaceful- no other campers here. Would not recommend coming after dark.
Report Check-InHonda fit here, we tried to get there but the stone pile between the tire tracks was too high for us, so we turned around (after 0.4 mile) and instead slept in the old RV park by the East entrance of the park (an amazing spot).
Report Check-InBeautiful spot to camp. We spent the night here about 2 miles up the road. No cell service. Nice breeze at night to keep you cool, and amazingly quiet! The stars are unreal too!
Report Check-InWell this was lovely!! 2WD was fine. We came in our ProMaster. Beautiful views.
Report Check-InEasy to get to in the day-time. The road is easy to drive but definitely go slowly. I drove in about a mile and a half to be sure I was parked legally. Found an open spot with the view of the mountains surrounding me.
Report Check-InSuper easy to get to even with low clearance, got a bit busy on holiday weekend but still plenty of room for everyone and everyone was quiet and respectful of the nature.
Report Check-InAmazing free camping. You need to go off-road to get there, but 4x4 isn't really needed. just take it slow. You can't have ground fires here so bring a propane fire ring if it have it. there is an amazing sheltered spot several miles up past the hole canyon walls. Fits about three to four vehicles and tents. Will come here again!
Report Check-InRV’s okay just take it slow. Gorgeous rock formations, and of course, deadly quiet :)
Report Check-InCouple of good spots along the road. Very quiet. No att cell service. Got about 1.5 in 2wd van fairly easily.
Report Check-InJust find a good spot over a mile in and set up camp. Probably won’t need 4x4, but you’ll definitely need to take it slow. I passed a schoolie that made it in just fine.
Report Check-InGreat road to travel and find spots to camp. After 1 mile in, you can camp, dispersed.
Report Check-InGood spot to wild camp near Furnace Creek. Rough gravel road but do-able with 2wd. Camping allowed 1 mile or further off the pavement.
Report Check-In2wd sprinter RV made it in about 2 mi. the road on Google maps is a bit wrong, but the actual road is easy to follow. Not too many obvious pull outs so it's best to arrive before dark. the road is good but it's in a wash area, so beware current or recent rain. the GPS coordinates were less than a mile from the main road, so be sure to measure yourself
Report Check-InDoable in 2wd. We drove a bit more than a mile and had this place for ourselves. Beautiful and quiet.
Report Check-InWe spent the night here with 3 other vans. Since this is a big area everyone got their own spot away from one another. Great place to camp, see the amazing stars and start a new day of exploring the valley
Report Check-InWe drove our 24' RV 2 miles up the road. It's a little rocky, but just about any vehicle should be able to make it up this road if you take it slow.
Report Check-InThis road is a dry gravel wash. Once you get past the hole in the wall it opens up and there are lots of places to camp. We went 3.6 miles in and didn't see another person until we left. Very quite and beautiful. We did it in a two wheel sprinter.
Report Check-InYou must be AT LEAST 1 mile down this road to camp legally. For more information, please consult the Death Valley National Park website, or stop in at one of the Visitor Centers and ask a NPS employee. The fine for camping illegally is $230. Fires are not allowed. The fine for an illegal fire is $530.
Report Check-InNice spot, made it in our 2wd sprinter without problems. But need high clearance. There were two other cars, but plenty of space. Very quiet, fires NOT allowed.
Report Check-InLe camping est autorisé au bord de la pisteaprès à un mille de la route principale. très tranquille.
Report Check-Ingreat spot!! 4x4 not needed... maybe after a big rain storm?
Report Check-InCamping past 1 mile (1.6km) from hi-190 is authorized as posted. But high clearance 4wd required, despite what the initial note says.
Report Check-InLots of rocks and boulders. Slow going getting in. We stayed maybe 2 miles from the main road. Beautiful sunset and scenery.
Report Check-InJust pull off to that unpaved road at least one mile and you can camp for free. Lots of great places! Even possible with 2WD.
