Description

The Museum of the Industrial Revolution, is located in what from 1865 was the Liebig Fridge and then the Anglo Fridge. Concido like "the Kitchen of the World" from this place the products processed from the bovine and ovine meat were sent to several parts of the world. For 116 years, Corned Beef and Meat Extract, among other products, started from this industrial colossus that came to employ 4000 workers from 60 countries of the world.

Guided tour at 10 am (English) and at 3 pm (Spanish). The tour is 2 hours and worth the money. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 9.30am to 5pm. Entry 50 pesos per person (museum only). Entry and tour 150 pesos. All free on a Tuesday. It is amazing to walk in the old factory buildings, which is only possible if you go on a tour. The museum is only in Spanish, so take the English tour to get the full experience (our guide, Nicolas had great knowledge and spoke good English)

We took the guided tour today and even though sceptic at front, really enjoyed it!
this place is so full of character and stories, you really need to see it.
currently there are two German volunteers working who did the English translation for our tour, I bet they can do a German tour as well

On Tuesday entrance and guided tour is still free. From wednesday to sunday the entrance fee is UYU 50/person and the tour is UYU 150/person. Monday is closed.
Without the tour you only can get into the maschine room, with the tour you can get into the slaughter house and into the can production. We did the tour at 10 am and it was in spanish and english. That was not bad, because meantime he explained everything for the spanish speaking visitors we had time to look around and take pictures.
For us very interesting!

This place is really amazing. Entrance fee still 50 UYU. The free entrance is on Tuesday, not on Thursday, like written in previous post. Closed on Mondays. Different guided tours, also a biking tour, still for 120 UYU each. Casa Grande is only open on weekends and holidays, entrance free. We visited the place on a Tuesday, it was free. We didn’t take a guided tour, but they opened the factory, we were free to walk around inside, as long as we wanted. Worth the visit!

Beautiful old industrial site, well maintained and friendliest staff.

Visited on a Tuesday and it was all free. Fascinating tour in English at 3pm with Nicholas who showed us the factory from top to bottom, superb example of early industrialisation, even the engine rooms were impressive. Museum does a good job too. Casa Grande above the complex (managers house) apparently open at weekends 12-2. Looks as if there is some nice wild camping along the river to the southwest, including a little sandy beach after about 3/4 km, though we only stopped for a coffee.

Remember it’s closed on a Monday and it’s free on a Tuesday, and that includes the full tour. 16 Spanish speakers for the 10am tour and us, so it was in Spanish which was disappointing, but well worth doing. Note by English standards this is a health & safety nightmare. Wear good shoes and be very aware of your surroundings, I expect the insulation material on the pipes contains asbestos, best not to disturb it.
