Description

At the end of a decently rough road there is a large flat open area to camp. We asked a few of the locals who were doing laundry and herding their livestock they said of course. There are a few palapa for shade and a few big trees. We saw lightning bugs and cane toads when it got dark. Great sunset view over Mombacho volcano.

This spot is absolutely incredible! Access through the village of San Marcos is quite easy. If you go along the path perpendicular to the road, you need a 4x4 and with our 2.5m high vehicle we had to cut branches. We parked 5m from the lake in the stones. The locals are very friendly and come to discuss with you. The sunset and the view of the Concepción volcano are superb! We highly recommend!

The spot was amazing. splendid sunset. And the locals met on site super friendly. We love being woken up by the cows and roosters of the farm next door.

we drove here with our combi van, took the south road, the other one is really bad. AMAZING place! there were some cows in the field but you couldn't smell anything. loads of fireflies at night.

MOTORCYCLE: Would not recommend!
The only flat and dry-ish spot was directly in front of the cattle pen at the finca. Stank of cow shit and LOADS of flies.
Only take the road from Moyogalpa..do not attempt to come in the other way. Not sure how it would be classed as a road (see bike laying on Sid picture, that’s a good section). Just sand and loads of big rocks.
Left and went to El Peregrino, 6USD with decent shower, kitchen and hammocks. Had a much better sleep than I would have.

very nice place at the lake, asked at the Finca if we could stay - no problem. Lots of waterfowl, poultry, dogs and cows, lake clean and warm enough to swim. Amazing sunset and amazing starry sky. No amenities, but good cell reception.

Drove here, the road is a riverbed but good enough, even during rainy season. However we didn’t stay here. It is right in front of a few houses so no privacy. It is level, some shade and a little bit of trash lying around.

Amazing place and as described. Felt safe, but there are always a few locals around. Good Tigo cell service.

we liked this spot very much and stayed three nights here.
the road is not the best but doable for every car.
we spoke with some friendly locals and the owner of the farm. everybody is welcome here.
there is a lot of space for big rigs, there is a lot of shade and a palapa for your hammocks.

This spot is nice. Very local feel. Road is rough but not impossible to get down (2wd) but wouldn’t fancy it in a big rig.

There are better spots on the island I think, especially for swimming.

Llegamos a este lugar luego de pasar un camino en pésimas condiciones. El lugar es bonito y tranquilo ideal para pasar unas noches en soledad y tranquilidad. Durante el dia vienen señoras a lavar su ropa en el lago.
We arrived at this place after passing a road in terrible conditions. The place is nice and quiet ideal to spend a few nights in solitude and tranquility. During the day, ladies come to wash their clothes in the lake.
