Description

To us, a group of 3 and a puppy, a guide called Guillermo was also recommend on the boat trip to NR.
Somehow we felt that he and the other official guides around the hostel were to pricey for what they offered. So we started to walk around and looked for a independent guide/local and we found Señor Luis Ramos.
At the beginning we weren't sure if we could trust him, because what he offered us seemed too good! But he kept his word and made our jungle experience unforgettable.
We told him that we've tents and food with us and that we'd need him only as guide. We stayed for 3 days/2 nights and he charged us 20 dollars a day per person. Probably the price was that low because it was during the low season, but he also told us that he liked our attitude and way of traveling.
So what he finally did for us included the boat rides to his camp ground in the jungle, he put up huge tarps against the rain, brought water and food (sweet water sting ray for breakfast!), took us cayman and dolphin watching, piranha fishing and guided us through the jungle on hours hikes. He's flexible with the program and really incorporates your suggestions into the day trips.
This man as guide (his observation skills are truly outstanding) and friend was more than we could ever think of and we can highly recommend this person to everyone out there even if he would charge more money!!
You can reach him directly (only with Ecuadorian phone number)+593969868807 or message his son Raúl on whatsapp

We had the WORST experience with these people. Because of the reviews we contacted them 1.5 monthS before going. we agreed on price and everything re our 3 day tour. I communicated with then a week before going, then a couple days before going to confirm availability. The answer was yes. so we drove to Coca for a day. then in coca paid for a hotel so we could store the van there while in the tour. then Raul took rushed us to buy our tickets to Rocafuerte for the 8 hours ride early next day. 20 min after buying the tickets at around 6pm, he called saying that plans have changed. That we will have to join a tour that was already happening with other people. We did not agree because that was NOT THE DEAL. So he said too bad! No help finding another solution, another guide, a cheaper price for changing our personalized tour to join another group tour. No nothing! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL how he handled the situation
It was the end of the day and our boat left at 7 am next day, and we had all ready. We felt we had to take the boat and see what we can do in Rocafuerte (RF) and not lose our money.
We got to RF exhausted. There was o ly one place to stay 24 US. There were not guides available. It was Awful!
After hours of searching and around 8 pm we were able to find Fernando Sifuebtes. He took us to the park for the day. And He was FANTASTIC. If you go I recommend him. Knwelable and with very good comunication skills, and always goes with his wife so she can drive de boat and cook while he gives you info or is available to you. (Luis y Raul do everything themselves). Fernando depending on how many people may be a bit more money but he will not leave you hanging on the air.

I DISCOURAGE ANYONE for m taking a tour with Raul or Luis. Not professional. There was an opportunity to make more money so commitment did not have any value to them. Rocafuerte Is very far and hard to get to so if you go, make yourself a favour and book Fernando +593 98 051 9789

Very few guides in RF. Hard to find one once there.

about finding new places despite he has been a guide since many years. we saw Caymans at night, dolphins birds monkeys and much more. food was good too.
it is difficult to describe the experience in words but I cannot imagine that someone will be disappointed by going to yasuni if you can handle some ants and few mosquitos. it is pristine primary forest and you are likely to be the only people camping inside. we went to places where no human has been in two or more years so you can see wildlife in its genuine environment. definitely recommend!

we talked to the guides Luis Ramon and Juan Carlos. prices have levelled now probably because both work together now with regards to logistics.
we went with Juan Carlos for 180 pp. this was 3d2n in yasuni and two nights in his house in nueva Rocafuerte. it was worth every dollar. it is a full on experience which you won't forget.
we put a base camp at a lagoon inside the reserve and explored the area hiking, and with the boat with and without motor. there are very few trails in the reserve, so often you will make your own once the guide has spottet Wildlife.
Juan Carlos is still very exci

Highly recommended tour & guide. We went 3 days with Raúl, Luis'son. He is a great 29-year old guide, with a lot of knowledge of the area, animals & plants. He has been a guide since the age of 17. He doesn't speak english (a few words maybe), but he speaks so slowly and using hands etc that even my husband who doesn't speaks spanish understood most of it!
The best thing is that you decide how you want to spend your time. Hiking, fishing, swimming, drive around by cano: it's all up to you. Almost no other tourists here, so you can enjoy the jungle in an exclusive way. And Raúl obviously loves his job, he gives 100% effort and he is happy to be active during day and night.
If you expect luxury and fancy food etc, dont come. If you expect the real jungle experience, come!
The price is between 50 and $70 dollars pppd. Yes it's more expensive than for example Bolivia/Rurrenabaque, where we did a tour as well, but this one is 100 times more special.
If you want to contact Luis and/or Raul: best to contact Raul with whatsapp, he even has a bit coverage at the campspot, so he will be able to reply soon. Luis doesnt have whatsapp.

We sought out Luis while we were in Coca. We didn’t get the deal that the others got, but the price was still better than we could find anywhere else. Luis is a very friendly guide who knows a lot about plant medicine and all the life in Yasuni. Highly recommend!

We read the previous post and decided to give this a try. When we reached NR we talked with another guide, Juan Carlos, and he offered a great tour, but it was too expensive at 75 pp/pd, no room to move even after explaining we had all our own food and camp equipment. So we found Luis Ramos (there are only 4 guides in NR) and bargained with him. It is not as easy as you would think to barter to 20 pp/pd, even with all of your own gear. We finally agreed on 35 pp/pd. But, don’t go expecting any less than 50 pp/pd. Luis took us out to his jungle camp, and although we agreed on no activities to get the price down, he took us out for lots of great things. River tours, hikes, fishing etc. It was an amazing experience. And he cooked for us even though we had food, so we shared what we could. Luis is a very intelligent man, he taught us many things about this beautiful place.
