Description

Magical place right on the eastern bank of Kafue (hippos, crocs) inside the GMA. large grassy and well maintained sites with lots of shade, fireplace, sink, clean private ablutions with hot showers. No electricity but possible to charge phones at lodge. When we were there, there were no guests at the lodge so we were welcome to spend time in the main lodge area with WiFi.
Staff (friendliest and most knowledgeable we have met) went out of their way to make sure we have a great stay and the owner couple is amazing!
Activities are not cheap but still good value: boat cruise, game drive in Kafue (they have cars parked on the other side of river), walking safari etc. we did the canoe excursion and loved it.
To get there, you turn south approx 60km east of the main Kafue bridge towards Itezhi-Tezhi. After 48kms you turn right towards the lodge (signposted, another 42kms). Lots of tsetse on the way but none at the lodge.
Only 3 sites so best to email (lodge does not have a phone connection) ahead - [email protected]
Price is 25$ pppn, includes firewood. Not the cheapest but so worth it. Ended up staying 3 nights and it was a highlight of our six month trip

Latest Check-Ins

There are three private campsites (so no shared ablutions). All set on the river bank with beautiful river views and very high quality facilities. Firewood and hot water is provided by a campsite attendant. The lodge facilities and activities are amazing. Wifi switches off for guests at 16:00. There are no powerpoints at the campsites but you can charge devices at the lodge. The owners know Zambia (and overlanding) very well and are always full of good route advice. It is the sort of place where doing your own gamedrives is not the best (it is in the GMA bordering the park, but the river cannot be crossed here), but if you are looking to splurge a bit then the private sites, lodge dining, activities (boating is a must, canoeing and game drives and walks are also possible) make this a brilliant destination. Booking in advance is essential. The more remote "Chief's campsite" is absolutely incredible, with a baobab designed shower and incredible rapids and rocks right in front of the site. It is not a 'passing through' destination, but if you want to get away from crowds and relax in the most incredible place then this is the site. Lodge meals are available in advance and the food was superb.

Report Check-In

We wanted to go to the lodge but a fallen tree blocked the track. Later we found out that the lodge is closed for the rainy season until 1st April. That is what the owner wrote me:
We have three lovely shady, riverside campsites available.  Each site has it's own private ablution block, sink for washing up, sheltered area for cooking, hot running water and plenty of firewood for the braai.

Camping is then 28 $ pppn.

Report Check-In

28 usd ppn for a campsite without any kitchen or service... too much for no big value.

Great lodge and worth the drive through the GMA. We met the owner and he gave us lots of advice for our trip.
