Description

After having entered Chile 5 times sofar with our right hand drive vehicle. We were refused entry at this border. The police officer advised me that Chile law does not allow right hand drives to be driven in Chile. After 30 minutes of debate. And able to show we already had been given permission to drive in Chile. plus copies of the TIP. With help of Aduane and immigration officers we were allowed to proceed.
pfffff. anyway still not sure what the law states in Chile.

Chile > Argentina
Foreigners with Chilen plate, already have the padron. No problems crossing here, very easy and got the full 6 months. Maybe 45 mins total for all the different processes. No food inspection from the Argentinan authorities (SENAC) just a brief questioning if we had anything fresh.

We took this border twice. Once in the end of winter with snow and we were the only once. Next one in early spring and on a Saturday. A lot of people as many Chilean are going shopping in Junin de los Andes. So come very early or late. Took about 2 hours in total for both (leave and entry).

Border crossing Argentina to Chile: very quick and friendly processing. No queue at all. Open at this time of the year from 8-17 hrs. SAG officers didn't check our just, they just asked us to throw the declared vegetables (one onion) into the bin.

We had an issue at this border leaving Chile with only a temporary Padrón. We were stamped out of the country but not allowed to pass the border. It was close to 8 o’clock and closing time and we were asked to come back in the morning.

In the morning we were let to pass with our temporary Padrón after some fuss but we did keep our declaration. I suspect we weren’t allowed through the evening before as it was late and the paperwork took some time. I’d suggest arriving well before the end of the day if you’re passing with a temporary Padrón.

The staff were very kind and helpful throughout, no issues there! Very quick on the Argentinian side.

Coming from Chile, and going to Argentina, it was easy and fast!

We were coming into Chile. Very easy and quick. Quick look at the most front facing drawers. Only asked what was in the cooler box (cervezas of course and they laughed and didn’t look). Just asked if we had honey or eggs. Very friendly.

Very long queue on a Monday afternoon. Took almost 2 hours total to get in of which the first hour was waiting to get ‘into’ the Argentina border section. Passing itself was fine. Chile side has strict checks of cars. Need to put all your bags inside through a scan and an agent checks the rest of the car.

Still not allowing RHD vehicles. no problem next crossing to the north.

We have just been turned away from here. We have entered Chile multiple times with no trouble until here, where they say there is a traffic law against right hand drive cars. This is a no-go for r-h drives unfortunately, it wasn't a quick process either, the guy was 'looking into the laws' for over an hour. And they took our honey before turning us away aswell... Argentina were confused when we returned but welcomed us back with advice on where the nicest places to go in the North are.
