Kazakhstan
The 500 km of the A27 between Atyrau and Aqtöbe, wich would be shorter than via Uralsk, is in a very bad condition. Except for the first 50 km out of Dossor. Driving on the moon might be easier. It took us three days to drive it. Average speed around 20 km/h. The landscape is very beautiful though! And due to the missing traffic, you can picnic on the road/sandpistes. If you want to drive it, keep on the side tracks!

The major roads in this part of Kazakhstan are quickly improving. The only long construction section we had was about 30 kilometers between the Russian border and Atyraw. For the rest mostly very new and smooth asphalt.
Report Check-InThe road A 27 from Atyrau is now good.
It is totally new. They probably built it during the covid period.
Don't hesitate to drive longer but safer. At least you won't kill your car. I was adviced by locals not to take the Atyrau-Aktobe road. Atyrau-Oural-Aktobe road is quite good. It took me 2 days to drive it without any hurry.
Report Check-InOK so the other road from Atyrau to Oral, the A28 on maps.me, is mostly good driveable but bumpy av. 60-70kms/hr except for about 10-15 kms (an hour out of Atyrau) where sections are missing and its like driving over curbs almost. Only got to Almaly so far so will check in again as we progress enroute to Aqtobe.
Report Check-InReally as bad as described. From Aqtobe to Muqyr and then directly to Qulsary we were driving 4 days. Road condition in the west are worse. Muqyr to Qulsary also very bad.
It would be very helpfull if someone could leave a comment about road conditions via Oral, which is about 500 km more, but maybe the better choice?
