Trying to find the other sites listed in Playa Ventura, I just found my own. Drove miles down the dirt road examining what appeared to be vacant lots in between lots with nice homes, I settled on a lot with a 40x20 grass hut. With an opening in the barbed wire to drive through. Located right on the ocean. I met Antonio the next morning. His brother owns the property next to me. He was collecting turtle eggs which had been laid while I was sleeping. He said the owners are never here, so I picked a perfect spot! There is a strong LTE cell signal here, but it’s 3g a hundred yards in either direction.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Nobody, lots of garbage but we had the beach for ourself. It’s a pretty good stop between Acapulco and Puerto Escondido
Report Check-InBefore choosing this spot, we took a look at all sites mentioned on iOverlander from Colonia Juan Alvarez to the end. Playa Ventura is (was?) being developed from the town (Juan Alvarez) towards the West. Everything is divided into parcels, some have beach houses and are occupied, some have partially finished buildings, some have collapsed structures and - towards the end - quite a few are vacant. Towards the far side, there used to be electricity, but the power cables are gone.
The established campgrounds are too cramped (to our taste): vehicles too close to each other. The wild camping sites are obviously all private property (maybe except for the one at the very end).
This is one of the larger parcels and has a palapa big enough for a small vehicle (max height 2.35 meters). Fence is gone, poles are still there. We parked next to the palapa, collected most of the garbage left by others and started cooking a meal. The caretakers of the house next to it showed up and gave us permission to stay. We had no way to verify their authority, but we stayed.
One night became two: in 36 hours, we've seen 5 vehicles on the road, one quad (with a turtle egg poacher?) on the beach and one person working the palm trees across the street.
Spent the day under the palapa, swimming and beach walking to El Coral for an expensive meal.
Weak Telcel 4G signal. Biting insects once the sea breeze is gone. Beautiful sunsets, turtle activity at night (although we did not see one).
Report Check-InEmpty pasture at the end of the Playa Ventura. Fine for a few nights. Nice beach with mild surf.
