Description

Very nice and comfortable posada with cabins and dinning common areas. You can camp right next to the larga quincho on the back just outside the fence. We camped and used the facilities at no cost since we booked an all-day jaguar tour with Eduardo. Really nice host and guide who speaks very good English. We paid 800 Reais for two people in early Jun. (not quite high season). However the initial tour estimate we got was 1,000 Reais.

We parked here with our 8 ton truck because of the fear of the quality of the bridges further down the road to Porto Gofre.
We agreed with Eduardo in advance by correspondence on WhatsApp on the price of two full days of a boat trip including transportation. 4000R for two days.
We parked inside the complex, they gave us a room for a shower and toilet and the possibility to connect to electricity free of charge.
We had a great guide, Max from Sri Lanka.
Agreed on a detailed price all in advance with Eduardo, in order to avoid inconveniences, we requested that we arrived early in the morning to go on tours and he wanted to charge us for it. In the end he gave up.
When we were there, he was not physically at the lodge, only his son and daughter.

We wanted to do a tour with Eduardo but the weather was horrible for watching jaguars. It rained for a few days non stop. Eduardo was honest about the weather and the low chances that we really appreciated. Nowadays tours are incredibly expensive. We could make a deal for a private boat for two people from sunrise to sunset for R$1500. This was without transportation to the boat, because we stayed in Porto Jofre. We don't know how the tour would be, but Eduardo seems a good choice. Enjoy!

just stop to have a look. didn't like the place. not clean, lot of rubish : strange for an "ecological' place!

We had a very, very nice day with the nice people from Jaguar Ecological Reserve on the boat. We had 4 sightings of jaguar. We recommend this guides and location.

Shared boat tour (up to 8 tourists) is 500reais pp. A lot of money compared to what you can get directly at Porto Jofre.
If you drive there you can go on a private tour usually for 750reais/boat. We also got an offer for 600reais with Francisco for private tour (for the 2 of us). Unluckily we had already confirmed with Daniel for 720reais/boat meal and dinner included. See Ioverlander entries.

About wild camping on Transpantaneira, we suggest to do it as it's part of the adventure and also increase the possibility to see animals.

Ps. I have to inform that Eduardo, the owner has not a good reputation there and we had confirmation unfortunately :(
We asked him a favor to bring us from Pocone some distilled water for our radiator that was licking. We gave him 20reais in advance to buy it. When he came back he gave us a Coca-Cola bottle with some dirty water inside saying that he bought it at Casa de la bateria and saw they filled it from a distilled water tank.
So at least you know who you are paying for..

We came here based on the previous comments. Camping was fine, wifi okay, no showers for campers. Power is 110v. We did the boat tour at 500pp for which we paid by PayPal. The lodge was pretty full so eight of us went in two boats that have comfy seats and sun shades. We had two guides, one of whom was a temporary volunteer and a Jaguar expert. Both did speak English. One of the boats broke down twice so we all ended up on the same boat most of the trip which was not that bad but we wasted about an hour of tour time dealing with that issue. Great breakfast at the lodge and okay lunch on tour - not enough choice of beverages though - only two beer for 8 people but lots of water. We did enjoy the tour itself and saw 4 jaguars during the day and a small giant otter family at the very end. We were supposed to leave at 7, told it would take an hour to get to Porto Jofre and get in the boat well before 9. We didn't get on the boat till well after nine and returned to shore by 3:15 so less than 6 hours long. The guides were friendly and drivers were good. Thing we disliked the most was the drive. You sit in a safari like truck all open air and eat a lot of dust especially when another vehicle passes and the truck's suspension sucks. After the tour we asked about a shower and as there was one empty cabin, they did let us have a hot shower. We were also invited to watch an ocelot feed in a screened in hide - cool!

Very nice experience - Full day excursion only the the two of us with Eduarda and Iza (Volunteer) on their comfortable boat with sunroof, drinks and lunch onboard included (500pp). 2 nights camping on their property close to shelter/toilets for free! Eduardo the owner and Eduarda the guide are well english speaking and very well organized and knowledgeable about the area and wildlife! We saw jaguars, giant otters, monkeys, caymans, capybaras, iguanas and a lot of birds and did some successful fishing (Piranha and giant catfish :-))...amazing! Park your vehicle at their property and go together with their car to porto jofre where they park their boats and back again in the evening. Very friendly stuff and good caipirinhas available at the restaurant/bar ;-)! Fully recommended- thanks!

We arrived Sunday morning very early and we were welcomed by Eduarda (who speaks English fluently and is the daughter-in-law of Eduardo). She suggested we'd stay and take a tour the next day. Free camping, use of bathrooms, shelter and WiFi. (No shower available, though.)

We decided to slowly drive to Porto Jofre, just for the ride and to see the 'town'. We found big boats and a tourist chaser who insisted making an offer. Price of the tour is the same as at the Reserve, but camping is seperate. No-one there seems to speak anything but Portugese. The boats hold up to 16 passengers. Porto Jofre (not really a town) has a big Pousada, an airstrip, two restaurants and a campground.

The road from the Reserve to Porto Jofre had (mid-June) one 100 meter stretch of water with deep ruts, which was no problem for our Land Cruiser. The smallest other car we saw was a Fiat pick-up (Worker). We returned to the Jaguar Ecological Reserve.

The tour starts (just after dawn) with a ride in the back of a pickup 'safari' truck to a Fazenda near Porto Jofre (where they keep their boats). Their boats will hold up to 6 guests.

We started working our way up-stream on the São Lorenço river, meeting boats from larger Pousadas. Before long, we saw our first Jaguar, but that one "didn't count", as she is fed by the fishermen and getting docile.

Most boats return to Porto Jofre for a buffet lunch; we ate our lunch aboard. That has an advantage: all other boats were gone, and sure enough: Eduarda found two Jaguars who had just killed a Cayman. We anchored and enjoyed their feast, and the Jaguars didn't even notice us.

Eventually, other boats found us, but by then we had spent 45 minutes observing and listening how Jaguars devour a Cayman, privately. The noise made the predators move their prey. Coming back, we saw a pile of other boats at the site of our first sighting. Tourists taking selfies with the Jaguar in the background, and such.

Eduarda was _very_ generous with her time. We were on the water for 7 hours and saw many birds, reptiles and mammals. She's not about the "Jaguar Tourist Attraction", but about wildlife and nature.

Recommended for those who came here to see nature and enjoy some explanation. Eduarda took the trouble to learn most species' names in English as well.

Price was R$ 1000 for two people (and included two free nights of camping). Cash and PayPal accepted, no payment cards (yet).

the very friendly staff, guides are very professional, the price tour is 400 Reais pp and that includes an overnight with your vehicle.
I pass my first night on the site that is next to the River and is not recommended (40 reais P. / night, very dirty). the River is 30 kms and bridges until there are very dangerous.
you can Park the vehicle in pousada and staff takes you and you back. this site is 100% recommend

Hello
So great place to stay for one night.
When we arrived with our truck Eduardo say that we can camp for free for the night near his pousada.
Normaly Eduardo ask you something around 50 reas for the night for a truck but if you take a tour in 4x4 and boat it can be free for sleep in your truck in this nice place.
We ask if we can go to Porto Jofre with our motorhome of 9 tonnes ans he tell me that it can be hard and dangerous...
He proposed a tour in 4x4 and boat on the river Cuaiba for our family for a really nice price.
He haved a reservation for 2 people 3 days later and he proposed the day for 800 reais for all the family of five with the food but I think that normaly it's around 1000 maybe be he do a good price because we have waiting 2 days on place.
So we stay 4 night free in the field near the quincho.
And we haved so much chance...we have see a jaguar during 15 mn and a lot of other animals during the boat expédition.
This man love his job and he is very friendly.
For the road....it was true..I think it's a good thing to stop here if you have a truck like us....after it was too narrow with the tree and and 2 bridges are not realy nice.
But you can try....!
For informations we are 8 meters long, 2.5 large and 3.7 high with 9 tonnes.
Here you will sleep with the pantanal music.....lovely.
