As our shipping date and plans changed we knew we needed our TIP extended. The current one was only to expire in two weeks, but since we were in the area and had our insurance already extended we thought we would give it a try. The agents were very nice, told us the system might not allow it yet, but were happy to give it a try and it worked.
Report Check-Incould extend my TIP 10 days before it expires for another month. took 10 Minutes without any costs.
I still had a insurance for the 2nd month. very friendly people there, only Spanish!

We renewed (prorrogar) our Formulario de Control Vehicular/TIP here. Fast and easy. A car insurance can be purchased in every decent village, just ask the locals where they buy their yearly renewal.
Report Check-InSuper easy! We had heard you could only extend your tip a few days before the expiry, however we were able to extend ours here 10 days ahead of expiry. Nice to not have to go into Panama City yet!

There is not insurance company here. Renew your insurance before in Penonomé or Santiago. No need to come with the vehicle, only passport, insurance and previous TIP.
