Mongolia
The way between Bayandalai and Noyon is so awesome, you cross different landscapes (long high flats, dry rivers between stone hills, red stone hills in black stones areas, sandy passages between green little hills...) and 4x4 is not needed (we make it by our 2wd Iveco Daily), but this point is a very sandy zone in a dry river... Absolutely 4x4 vehicle needed, we crossed it thanks a mongol family and their 4x4 car, it was hard.
update: we didn't find this Sandy spot.. there are hundreds of tracks here, if you can't go on, choose another one ;) nothing to worry about in a 2wd unless you already are stuck and cant go back :D
We don't have any photos of this place yet.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Not sure if you really need 4x4, I think if you have a little speed and maybe the right tyres it should work with 2wd. (or if you have a Prius ^^)
Report Check-Inas almost anywhere in Mongolia there are hundreds of different roads to reach your destination. on our track there was nothing to worry about in a 2wd. if you reach a spot you can't pass, you can go back a few hundred metres and try a different track. Some sandy passages and really bad ripples on this road
Report Check-InI can see how you'd need a 4x4 to climb this bit of sand out of the riverbed. It was OK on my motorbike.
