Description

This is now the end of the road. Only some locals are allowed to drive through the gate. Also all the tour busses have to park here.
Camping is for free and is allowed on the big parking lot. Toilets are available and were open all night.
It's an additional easy 1.3 km to walk to the trailhead. It took us around 1,5 hours for the complete hike to the laguna. The first tourist groups arrived at around 9:30 at Humantay Lake. The lake itself is completely in the sun at around 9am. But the mountain wall behind it only at around 10am.

Latest Check-Ins

Seems like they don't allow vehicles up to this point, anymore. You should spend the night at the pin "Free Parking". The other place is way quieter, anyway. (no dogs or roosters at night)
Either start the hike early (at latest 7:00am) or later (around 2:00pm). In between that time frame, there are hundreds of other tourists.

Stayed one night. Next day lady told us it is private land and wanted 5 soles for parking.

Well worth a visit to the Laguna. We arrived here around 3pm, passed lots of tour buses on the road up coming the other way but didn’t mind because it was quiet in the car park and laguna which we got to at about 4:30pm. Tour companies began to arrive from 8am ish in the morning but we weren’t bothered by anyone and the road was clear going away from the car park from 9:30 ish. Don’t be put off other comments, our experience was great and would highly recommend it. Just make sure you time it right!

Now you have to pay 10 PEN/pp entrance fee in Mollepata or at a gate around 17 km from here. Parking overnight is still for free.

Laguna Humantay is nice but doesn’t wort the effort to come here!!! Also it is crowded as hell! More than Machu Picchu! So if you want to enjoy it you should come in the afternoon. We slept here two nights but didn’t feel good neither safe. Everyone is watching you, calling you gringo, touching your car and stares at you like they never saw a human. There is lots of donkeys so expect lots of shit everywhere. They charge for a toilet 1 sole but they never clean it, just sitting around doing nothing! So overall - we will not recommend. To crowded to enjoy... also the road to here is horrible - dirt road full of buses and minibuses. It is up to you but we didn’t enjoy it.

Camped here. No charge, bathrooms open at night and free, during the day they cost 1sol. ALSO! WE LEFT OUT ROOF TOP TENT SET UO SO IF COULD DRY WHILE WE HIKED, WHEN WE GOT BACK SOME HAD BEEN IN OUR TENT! Everyone denied entering the tent or seeing anyone do so. The bathroom girl changed her story saying that one of the drivers was trying to see if we were up in the tent to ask us to move the park, but she insisted the no one entered the tent, which we know is a lie because they left the main door zipper wide open. Nothing was stolen because before we left we put it all in the car just in case.
