Description

We stayed a few nights at campsite #7. It’s by far the largest out of the 14 sites on this road. Big fire ring in the middle. Our 40’ bus and Jeep fit in here with room for 2 more full size buses and vehicles. The entrance to this site has a large bump/mound you need to drive over. RVs with low ground clearance may have an issue.

You are allowed to stay up to 14 days and have upto 15 people per site.

There are at least two black bears in the woods surrounding this particular campsite. They walk into and out of camp every day. (They don’t bother us) May be a good idea to bring bear spray if you have it. But black bears are pretty docile. Just yell at them and they move on. None the less, Be aware. No cellphone reception at all... zero. So, plan your exit route before you get here.

Latest Check-Ins

We used site #6 for 3 nights. Very quiet place except for a very noisy and friendly family of red squirrels... lot of fun.
Also noticeable is the pit toilet available on this site (don't know if it is the same for the other sites). It's a pity that previous users of the site did not notice that and used the area closed to the camp without cleaning it... we did it. Absolutely no network here but a little bit when going close to site #8.

I'm staying at #9 as it's the first one I saw (coming from the north). I drove about a mile down the road to see the next two spots taken and returned to #9 so it wouldn't get stolen. Nice and shady, feels at least 10°F cooler than it did in Gorham on this warm July afternoon!

Report Check-In

Found one spot open out of all 14 spots. Fire was still burning where someone camped on it before I got here. Spots are very far apart. About 5-10 miles of forest with campsites all over it. The one I had was deep in the woods and close to another exit. Fully covered by trees so no solar recharge here. It was soaked from the rain and a big puddle to drive through but my van made it into and out fine. Only stayed one night due to no sunlight to recharge and bring some heat in. It got down to 59 in my van last night and I knew being in the shade all day it wouldn’t get much warmer. Had 1 to 2 bars of Verizon from spot 6 all the way to spot 13 which is the one I stayed on. Enough to call out on but no internet.

Stayed 1 night here, very dispersed sites they are all different sizes we stayed at #9 all other spots were full and this spot was large enough for our sprinter. Super quiet also a established fire ring at the site. 14 day limited. I think it’s closed in the winter.. but can’t confirm we came in august and it was great!!

Report Check-In

Gate was still open when we visited but we believe it closes for winter. A number of different sites of various sizes available. Very dispersed. Solid quiet sleep.

Report Check-In

Gate is closed and locked beautiful surroundings. There is a trailhead not far away to stay for the night

Report Check-In

Closed during winter, gate blocking road

Report Check-In

Gate closed when I went on dec 15th some snow but road behind gate was plowed so may be opened on certain occasions.

We stayed at spot #3 and it is great free camping near Mt. Washington. This site would be awesome for group camping as it is huge! The first two sites get cell services, but nothing after that. No amenities, but we aren’t complaining.

Report Check-In

Great sites with a really nice hike up Cherry Mountain nearby. ~10 miles round-trip if you do Mt. Martha and Owl's peak.

Report Check-In

As described, many campsites along the road, each with firepit. No toilets or picnic tables. #1 and 2 were full, #3 was a walk-in site for a tent (had a small space for parking on the road, not best for a van), #4 wasn't quite level, so we kept driving and snapped #5. #6 had a trailer and vehicle, we didn't walk further down the road than that.

No cell service for t-mobile. Great site, please keep it that way and leave no trace.

Forest service limits: 14 day maximum, max 15 people and 3 vehicles per site.

Awesome spots! I had #4 which I wouldn’t suggest for unless you sleep in a tent, it’s quite sloped.

Report Check-In

Gate is closed, no access due to COVID 19

Perfect for us, we stay one night at number 9. Nice spot for firecamp. No noise, we saw only one car in the Morning.
