Nice wild camping on the beach by the Elqui River mouth. Car tracks suggest that the place is used by locals, but we were alone here. Some friendly fishermen and dogwalkers in the morning. On the satellite map, you will find the dirt roads that lead here. If you have no 4x4, you can stay a little further in where there is no soft sand.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
The spot is closed. Non it is a "humedal Rio Elqui, zona de fauna silvestre".
Report Check-InI was not able to reach this place with my motorhome (3.5 ton, 2WD).
1st attempt: Avenida Pacifico. The pavement ends in front of new buildings and is blocked by poles for any traffic.
2nd attempt: Avenida Costanera del Rio.
When the road changes from pavement to gravel, there is a narrow gate to be passed and a sign that says "private". A few hundred meters after that are the remains of teared down buildings and a wild dumpster with all sorts of garbage. Any further gravel path seems to end in overgrown bushes or is blocked (intentionally?) with large pieces of chunk. I felt really uncomfortable and left immediately.
Not a lot of places for tents, but with a car you have more options. In the evening and the early morning some locals at the beach but very quiet in the night. River is quite muddy and there tons of mosquitos. Overall a good option for one night but not for longer.
Report Check-InOvernight here for two nights with tent and motorbike. Really safe and quiets. Bit windy if stayed on the sandy beach, mine just hidding, so less winds. Only sounds of waves and birds. Birds make noise near my tent in the morning, haha! A lots of toilet papers. So shame! Locals come for fishing.
Report Check-InNot closed at all. Lots of locals parked put here to enjoy the beach. There are a few dirt roads lead out here.... nice beach, pretty good place to camp near the city.
Report Check-InAvons essayé d'y aller mais trop de sable ( même avec un 4/4 , arrivions de nuit donc pas de prise de risque ).
