Easy to find primitive site off of logging road just outside Sisters, OR. A few other spots around the area. Town is only a few minutes drive for any needed supplies. Occasional bikers and a truck or two passing by through out the day. Very dusty when dry. Exercise extreme caution with fire in the area.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Stayed for a few nights here in our 26’ class C. Plenty of spots along this road, wish we were a bit smaller so we could venture further in but this place is nice, quiet, and super close to sisters!!
Report Check-InShocked to see no one mention the wrath of the chipmunks in this area. They already ran me off another spot around the corner and theyre in full force at this spot as well. I’m talking JUMPING INTO THE VAN WHEN IM STANDING RIGHT THERE REPEATEDLY and of course concerned about them chewing wires in the engine bay. I’ve heard them in there and ran the engine to flush them out. But they come back quick. They are fast, devious, and perseverant. There’s a pin on google maps nearby called chipmunk mountain. There must be a huge colony fighting for resources. Alvin and his little buddies won the battle this time, I’m outta here.
Report Check-InAs others have said, there are plenty of spots along this road. We found a spot but we also saw lots of other campers. Area is ok. The roads are fine dirt, and the trees give you some shade but not much. I could see it getting really hot here.
The forest service logging road (Brooks Scanlan) is miserable! We were going about 2-3 mph in our class c. Lots of deep ruts all across.
Report Check-InLots of spots of this road. Spots have fire pits and are large enough for multiple vehicles. We stayed here for 2 nights while visiting bend and it was great!
Report Check-InTons of spots along these forest roads. Been here multiple times this month and never had an issue finding a spot. Spots are spread out as well. Between 2 and 4 bars LTE on Verizon and AT&T. The Sisters Bakery is incredible and surprisingly cheap. Mountain biking trails nearby but we didn’t ride them. Majority green (beginner) trails and mostly cross country style. Check out Trailforks for more info.
Report Check-InComing from the south in Bend, it’s a nice gravel road until you hit Brooks Scanlen, which is kinda crappy to drive on (rutted, uneven, rocky) just go slow. I have the Ford Transit 350 HD w/ two wheel drive and it was fine, just really bumpy and everything flies around in back if not well secured.
It looks like it would have been easier to just take 20 all the way into Sisters, then take 3 Creek Road to Brooks Scanlen so you don’t have to drive on it as long.
Anywho, I saw several pull outs along the way coming from the south. It looks like there are a few more permanent campers out here but the one near the power lines where I stayed appears well-kept and they were friendly. I had three bars of Verizon LTE service on this road. As described, it’s dusty and dry. There are Sisters Trails throughout the area that appear to be popular with mountain bikers. Town is under a few miles away, depending where along the road that you camp.
Report Check-InGood for a night. Quiet. Some T-Mobile LTE, but not fast. Excellent bathrooms in town.
The bike ride to the McKenzie Pass is great, this time of the year. In early spring not open yet, in summer open for car traffic, but in May and June it’s bicycle heaven, although only Fr, Sat and Sun! During the weekdays also closed for bicycles because of road work.
