Uganda
The buranga pass is a scenic 4x4 track with a stunning view over the border river between Uganda and DRC. You can do the pass and drive back to fort portal on the new tarmac road. We did it with an Unimog but anything bigger you‘ll get problems. Close to the ending of the pass is a military check. But it was no problem.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
The locals use this pass with their motorbikes. So no problem on a motorbike. As a 4-wheeler you'll need a saw to remove some remains of fallen trees.
Report Check-InThis is the old road. As such it is possible to go with a 2x4 car. Having said that, wo have to admit that we couldn't get through to the serpentines as a big branch of a tree was blocking our way. Anything higher than 2,50ish and/or wider than ~1,80 will need a saw / axe and time. We cannot report what the later road condition is like.
Report Check-InIt is a beautiful scenic drive. we are 2.8m high and came through. due to overhanging branches/trees I would not drive it if you are above 3m. although a 3.2m car might just fit with some cutting.
Report Check-InGreat pass but has frequent blockages from fallen trees. Really worth it.
Report Check-InA really magnificent grassy track through mountain forests with views towards the DRC.
Not steep. Some short sections the bush might touch the sides of the vehicle (we are 2.3m wide). We had to saw off a branch here and there as our truck is 3.2m high. Not a long pass but so beautiful you'll want to stop often... we took about 3 hours.
After meeting up with the tar road again turn right to return to Fort Portal...a really worthwhile and easy daytrip.
Lovely easy pass with great views as mentioned. 2km before end of trail a tree blocked the way so we had to turn around. No problem as the pass is so pretty. I’m sure it will be chopped up for firewood very quickly and the pass will reopen.
