Latest Check-Ins

Currently unreachable due to flooding. Just go to Hippo Point some 1,5-2 km north-east where you also find a (dirty) toilet house. Even if people/rangers came, I have the impression that in this park nobody would care to encounter you.

Report Check-In

We spent a night here and it was lovely. It’s a few hundred metres from the actual campsite.
We arrived just before it went dark and left at first light.
No rangers came and the only slight noise was from the fisherman.
It’s a good hidden spot, but I think if you’re caught you would have to pay. But we camped here for free and had no problems at all.

Report Check-In

We camped here one night for free near the building with toilets (a bit hidden in the bush). We arrived before sunset and left early for a game drive. After 2hours we could see all the tourist tour cars coming to spot big cats in this area.
Totally worth the spot for a night!

Official campsite is north of these coordinates (to the north of Hippo point). Hug the shoreline and you can’t miss it.
This spot though is just as good, if not better, and the rangers didn’t ask me anything when they came by. Just asked if I could make them a coffee.
What I would say about both this and the official campsite (I spent a night at each of them) is have alook out for the local fishermen; They make a lot of noise. This had the effect of scaring off the animals and keeping me awake. The fishing is illegal so maybe contact a ranger to see them off and to enjoy a quieter and more eventful night with the animals.

We stayed here for 2 nights after our evening game drives and left early morning to do morning game drives! Very convenient location for wildlife drives because you are in the are of highest wildlife density!!!
you are quick in the are where they usually spot lions and leopard! And there is also a shoebill track you should drive very early in the morning...just follow the lakeshore! In the evening there were jackal, drinking giraffes and buffalos and hippos in the water! Fabulous in the middle of the wildlife! But be careful because of the lions!!!
we pitched our tent after sunset!
The campsite is just a toilet and nothing else! We are not sure if we may be missed the real campsite or if this was the 40 $ campsite! For us it would be an argument if a ranger would have come. We would have said it is so basic we thought it is public camping 🙈To be honest, it is a joke offering just a toilet and charge 40$!
But taking the risk was worth it because the drive to the other campsite would be 30 km and was less nice!!! Here you have beautiful sunset when the sky is clear! Enjoy 😊

Be aware that this is not a wild camp. this is what rhe UWA sells as Bushcamp and its 40$ pppn... its a nice place without infrastructure. if you wanna save the 40$ be there late and leave early. if they find you then you need to pay the fee...

Report Check-In

Wooow perfect place for wild camping! Just drive up there one hour before the sun sets.

Report Check-In

Bush camping in the park, excellent. You DO NOT need a guide, talk them out of it!!!
