*Kigali Burundi Embassy update*

Ok just an update as there was a recent chat about this.
We visited the Burundi Embassy in Kigali this morning. Currently they are not offering the 30 day visa as their 'tool' is broken 🤷🏻. He said this will be fixed in June. After several phone calls, he was convinced that we will not be granted a 30 day visa on arrival at the land border, and the transit can only be extended in the capital. We asked how much is fine if we do not get the extension within 3 days, he said $10 per day but will confirm with me later on that. We asked if we could get an embassy letter to explain the challenge of cycling to the capital in that amount of time, but it was not offered. The receptionist finished the conversation with this parting comment "You know our president Peter? He cycled to the border in 1 day, so you can do it in 3. You are experts." 😂

The embassy didn`t issue Visa. They explained that we get ordinary visa on arrival at every land border. But 3 days later at the border they only issued transit visa. We have to go to Kajumbura for extension.

Very smooth process, went there in the morning at 8.30, had my Visa 2 hrs later - German Passport holder - one of those hours was spent walking to/from the Bank of Kigali to pay for there for the Visa.They ask for copy of your passport but it can also be done by them. One passport photo needed in print. application form (one page) can be filled in on the spot, it's in French and English.

Staff arrived at around 9 but we could already enter the waiting are. The lady issuing the Visa applications came a bit later and signed them immediately.
payment has to be made in US$, the Banks (tried a few) only change € to $, but not Rwandan Franc. Had to go to the Forex, same mall as the Bank of Kigali. Make sure the $ you get are new/non torn bills.

Very straightforward. Fill the application, go to the Bank of Kigale and pay 90 $. Return with the receipt to the embassy and wait a few minutes. After that the visa is in your passport. No waiting time like previously, the give it on the spot.

Totally correct here below, the only difference I waited only 4 days for my visa. If I well understood, they have a meeting every Wednesday to approve visa requests. Anyway, very easy to got it. Miss Alice, at the desk was very nice.

As of september 2018 :
One month tourist visa 90$.
Three days transit visa 40$.
10 days turnover waiting for Bujumbura approval.
Fee paid on pick up day.
You keep your passport during waiting time.
Documents : passport copy and one photo.
