Description

Camped near the summit of "el mirador?", the peak above Benito Juarez. Asked at the information center if we could camp, they said it was no problem, just had to pay 70 pesos each to enter the park. At the summit was a neat fire tower to climb up and suspension bridge. Beautiful sunset from the summit. The road to the camping area was rugged and had some sharp uphill/downhill turns, not likely any large or underpowered vehicles would make it.

camped at the Mirador for 2 nights. beautiful spot and great views/sunset. however, you dont want to be camped there when the masses arrive (weekends). there is another camp ground not too far, but they are done g some.construction on it at the time woof posting. Also, it is now $100 pesos for entry, then $100 for access (to the Mirador, I guess). then it turnee out camping is $100/night but that story changes depends on who you speak with and their mood at the time

We stood for one night, but the other day the "secretary of tourism of Benito Juárez (named Clemente)" came and told us we have to leave. He said now it is forbidden to stay here overnight (in a very rude way, not friendly at all!) There was a second guy named Manuél who was kind and tried to help us, but Clemente was the boss and Manuél had no chance. So finally we had to leave and went back to Oaxaca.

Camp at El Mirador in Benito Juarez. A small mountain village in the Sierra Norte of Oaxaca, off the beaten path. 60 pesos per person. No restrooms or showers. Gorgeous views, beautiful hanging bridge and a lookout tower. BBQ places just up from where you park your car. Down at the village are nice affordable restaurants. El Mirador and Benito Juarez iS about 1.5h hours driving from Santa Maria del Tule via a mostly dirt road.
