Description

MODERATOR NOTE: Place removed because camping is illegal here. Signs posted and enforced

Ok spot for one night, between HWY 1 and railways. There is a old sign at the end of the lot, possibly saying private property, no camping. Slept here with another camper and car. The walkway on the bluffs has beautiful views. There is a “real” bakery the Whale City Bakery, amazing!! The pastries sell out quickly.

Latest Check-Ins

Stayed one night to check out the bluffs and it was awesome. Multiple people we talked to stayed here multiple nights no problem. There is an RV parked here that looks like it hasn’t moved for a while.

Report Check-In

Stayed here 1 night. Pulled up at 3pm left at 9am the next morning. Really cool place to explore! Felt safe but kinda noisy. There were 5 other vans that stayed the night. The bakery had a good caramel latte! I recommend this spot!

Report Check-In

Great spot. I’ve been using it for a few years now. One thing to be aware of is that there are a lot of ticks here. Prepare yourself and your dogs and check after walking around. Whale City rocks as always.

Report Check-In

Spent 2 nights here while surfing in Santa Cruz. Super chill spot right on highway 1. A hand full of other camper vans staying over night and a few, what looked like, long term rigs that were there. A little noise from traffic but not bad.

Report Check-In

Awesome spot! We car camped here for 2 nights and had no problem. We arrived around sunset and left around 9 am each day. There were 3 other camper vans the 1st night and we had the place to ourselves the 2nd night. Car/freeway noise is minimal at night. The noise usually picks up early morning around 5 am. No T-mobile service. Closest restroom was in Santa Cruz at Safeway.

Report Check-In

Surprisingly large pull off area right next to the hwy. The dune, trees, and brush obstruct the view for most of the lot but we parked at the N end, just south of the rusting cement plant structure with our large truck camper and had a sunset view of the water over the dunes. You can walk over the dune to the edge of a 150 ft cliff for more spectacular views. It’s also possible to climb down a narrow, very step and slightly dangerous path to reach a beautiful little beach with a swing you can swing on over the surf that hangs from a cement support left from the old pier. We felt reading all of the reviews you get a pretty accurate description the lot as a place to stay. We had good cellular service here with AT&T. It was surprisingly quite from about 7pm until 7 am. We felt totally safe, no one bother us and there were only two other vehicles parked in the lot overnight

Report Check-In

Nice, spacious spot! Easy to park for huge RVs. But, there’s no T-mobile cellular signal. Bakery is close til the 21st.

Report Check-In

great spot!
a lot of freeway noise throughout the day but quieter during the night.

cons: a car of locals we presumed yelled out the window "get the f out of here!" and threw a rock at a rv next to us around 9pm.

we stayed here 2 nights no problem. the coffee shop down the street also has great pastries and coffee !

Beach bluffs with an industrial vibe.
No issues. Arrived at night. Left around 8 am.
My GF liked Bakery’s croissant near by.
Has Verizon service.

Report Check-In

Great overnight spot, right next to the road but at night there was little to no traffic.

Report Check-In

About 5 or 6 overnighters. "No camping" signs but I think they mean on the bluffs. Actually two parking areas very close to each other. Take your pick and pack it out!

Report Check-In

pretty level parking--only the slightest lean toward one side. the sunset views on the bluffs are gorgeous. we parked here overnight, eventually joined by another van and some car campers. minimal hwy noise and no one told us to move. great spot!

Report Check-In

Parked just N if the official parking lot on the West side of railroad tracks. Shared the space with an RV but never saw anyone. Mostly a view of a dune but a walk on the dune yields beautiful ocean views. No problems except some traffic noise.

Report Check-In

“No” signs everywhere so we decided not to stay

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Pulled in at midnight. There were about 6 other cars, vans and campers overnighting. Traffic was quiet at night and picked up around 7am (parking is only about 15 feet from road). Felt safe and could hear the ocean!

Report Check-In

very good spot, quiet and clean. Amazing bakery close by. Do not even look for something else as we did, no worth it.

Report Check-In

This is the best overnight spot. We backed out van RV up and woke up to an amazing view of the ocean and beach from our bed. On our way to the bakery for some coffee and a pastry, I noticed the no overnight parking sign. However, there were at least 15 other overnighters, vans, RVs, and people sleeping in their cars. We had no issues. I'm thinking the business owners own this lot and turn a blind eye because of the business we give them. I saw several campers walking back with coffees.

Report Check-In

We had a bad experience with this place. A car came very fast at night ans did a 360 skid just beside us. We got a small rock that broke our rear glass. Also, this place is very noisy because cars run very fast and it makes shaked our RV. Maybe it is safer to go to the other big parking lot 200m approx. in direction of Davenport (in front of the bakery I think), because you are less closer than the road and there is a fence that can protect you from the road. (this place is not on iOverlander but many cars and RV's sept there even if there is a sign "do not park from 10pm-6am).

Report Check-In

Awesome, safe stay, make sure you park in the area with the wood chips! everyone was super friendly and helpful. Woke up the next morning to a beautiful sunrise. The bakery across the street (whale city) opens @6:30am the locals told me to get there early because everything sells out quick. Whale city also has live music and insanely good happy hour specials, had happy hour drinks + food then walked over to our van for a nice slumber.

Report Check-In

nice large pull out betwin the road and the ocean. we arrived at about 7pm anf watched the sunset from the beach which was amazing. the noise fron the road was ok during the night. 2 other campers on the parking

Report Check-In

We slept here for 2 nights while surfing in Santa Cruz. This is the best place in the area and we felt really safe here. A few others stayed here too. The road is not that busy and it calms down in the evening. We can only recommend this place. Please keep it clean so other traveller can enjoy it as well!

Wow! Large lot off Highway 1 where the train tracks cross the road. I’m pretty sure trains don’t come through here due to large weeds growing on the tracks. There is some car noise, but not enough to keep me awake.

Beautiful coastal views! Secluded public beach directly across from the bakery that isn’t too hard to reach. There’s another just north of there that requires climbing down a cliff, but there is a rope there, so it’s doable.

We loved it and stayed 3 days.

Report Check-In

Spent one night here. We pulled in around 10pm when it was already dark and there were about 6-8 rigs already parked for the night. Slept in and went to breakfast at the Whaler Bakery (support local business if you’re going to camp for free). Peaceful night and a wonderful place to spend a slow morning.

Report Check-In

Loved this spot. Stayed for 2.5 days- great adventures down to the beach and some fun shops right across the street. Good amount of ppl hanging around during the day

Report Check-In

good for one night (apparently up to 3 is ok). the [cement] plant across the street made some noise that woke me up, but very little highway traffic until about 6am. lots of trash. pick some up (and don't make more)

Report Check-In

We got there around 7pm stay until 12 pm no issues very nice view of ocean. Please Keep it clean!

Report Check-In

Stayed here 1 night. 3 other campers there with us. A good spot but no facilities.

The bakery and bear claw mentioned below was great so thanks for the recommendation.

Report Check-In

Good spot. I got there after sunset and left around 7:00 am. I wasn’t bothered. Several others in cars, camper vans and RV’s. Be sure to support the locals at Wale City Bakery just across the street. Great bear claw and coffee

Report Check-In

took some time because they were very similar parking spots it's past the devonport little way and there's one similar one but that has parking no parking from 10 a.m. to something so you need to keep going when you clear out

Report Check-In

Good spot for a night or two. We arrived around 7:30 and there was one other van tucked in the most discreet spot near the railroad track crossing. We parked in the large dirt area.

Traffic was quiet all night, we woke up to an RV and minivan that spent the night near us as well. Intermittent Verizon cell service. The 1 has lots of no parking/no overnight parking signs in this area , but none at this specific pull off. Safe to assume a cop could kick you out, but we weren't bothered and there were many other people that spent the night along the 1 in places that did have no overnight signs. Be respectful, pack out all trash to keep these spots viable.
