Description

This place is a great camping site and a mechanic workshop together, it's very comfortable to spend some days in La Paz and check/fix your truck. There are big car ramps if you need to change your oil or inspect your truck's underbody, there are also tools and a mechanic that can help you.
The owners are super-friendly and speak English and French.
Hot shower, toilet, full kitchen for overlanders, laundry machine, electricity and drinking water are available. And can fill propane!
+591 76550000 - +59177289799

We left our car for 7 days during the trip to the Salt flats and then we spent some days in La Paz city. You can take a taxi to the center (cost 40 bolivianos and take 40 minutes)

Report Check-In

Like everyone else mentioned: Marcos is an amazing, friendly, and helpful host, campground owner, and mechanic. The facilities work, are clean, and are sufficient. My husband, our dog, and I stayed here for five weeks, managing the place when Marcos and his family went on vacation. There are four small tiendas in walking distance and the microbus #359 goes deep into downtown La Paz. You can pick it up just outside, across the street. A 20-minute walk done the hill brings you to a good grocery store called Hipermaxi. You can take a colectivo or taxi back uphill.

The cable car system in town is amazing, clean, efficient, and cheap. We want to warn overlanders about two things: watch the road carefully, especially the last kilometer. There are some nasty potholes and topes (speed bumps) blended into the pavers. And, our only complaint, really: there are tons of loose dogs in this area, some of which were aggressive towards our dog. Better to keep walks outside the gate short.

Report Check-In

Marcos and Arawi are incredibly friendly and very helpful, nice campsite with kitchen, hot showers, clean toilets, washing machine, wifi, barbeque etc. Three little tiendas in walking distance.
Fits about 6 to 7 rigs, better send whatsapp before you arrive:
- Marcos: +591 76550000
- Arawi: +591 77289799
100 BOB/night for 2 adults in a van, our kids stayed for free!
I needed to see a physician and he accompanied me to help translate.
Highly recommended!!!

Report Check-In

We already spent a week here going north last November, we only came back to Bolivia on our way south cause we skipped Uyuni last time. We didn't have to but gladly made a stop to visit Marcos again. He's such a gem. The vibe as always was great, the showers hot, the toilets clean, free drinking water... Great place to meet other travellers, great connection to the city... 100% recommended. When you text Marcos to check availability, also ask him for the easiest route from wherever you come!

Report Check-In

We spent 3 nights here and left also our van for 4 nights while we were gone in La Paz. Marcos is sooo lovely ! He can help you with everything !! We had such a wonderful time at his camping !!! We also messaged him before we arrived and he sent us a map to get there. Highly recommend this camping !

Report Check-In

Definitely make sure to WhatsApp in advance to make sure there is space, as it is a fairly small campground. It is also good to ask for their directions to the campground to make navigating there easier. This is definitely the place to be for visiting La Paz or if you need some repairs. The facilities are very good and clean and Marcos and Arawi are lovely people. 50 bol per person per night and only 25 if you want to store your vehicle there. Be warned that the hills on the way here are very steep!

Report Check-In

Wow - what a friendly place with amazing owners. Arawi and Marcos do everything to help you with your car or getting the trip organized. It’s not just going the extra mile, I would say it’s an extra 100 miles. I truly haven’t experienced anything like this place in South America over the last 10 months. Super friendly, polite, helpful, transparent on their pricing and competent. That pretty much summarizes the place and it’s owners!

Report Check-In

Very good campground : good shower, wifi, kitchen, common room for fresh nights. And Marcos is very helpful and good mechanic. Recommended place!

Report Check-In

great place, still 50bop pppn. it is a bit far from down town la paz but it's easy to get there: take a collectivo nr 359 or 887 to the green cable car, both collectivo's stop one small block away. buy a ticket for the whole route. you then take the green cable car all the way to the end of this line where you get on the blue cable car. you take this all the way to the end as well. the end station is called Prado and is close to plaza san Francisco. you have to wear a mask in the cable cars.... the collectivo costs 2 bop pp and the cable car 5bop. so for 7bop, about 1 dollar, you are downtown. There's also a neighbourhood closer to the campsite (4-5km) called San Miguel where you'll find lots of nice restaurants and bars.

Report Check-In

Marcos is incredible and can help you for everything, the best place to stay near La Paz, especially if you have mechanical problems

Report Check-In

The drive to Las Lomas is tricky but well worth it to spend time at this great location to explore La Paz. Allow about 1.5 hours to get here from Ruta 1 (coming from the south), depending on the traffic. Marcos can send you a Google map. The scenery is incredible. Relax and take it slowly. Travelling to and from the city centre is also easy and fun, using collectivos and the amazing telefericos. Not expensive. The price at the campground is still 50 bol per person per day - a good deal for a major city. The parking is tight here so it is best to contact Marcos in advance. (We were here pre-pandemic and obviously we love the place as we are back again!)

Report Check-In

We spent a bit over a week at Las Lomas and it was very nice, we felt like home. Although Arawi and Marcos were away they were very welcoming and helpful and there was the very kind and helpful Nin on site.
Hot water and potable water. Everything is kept very clean and cosy.
We used some tools from Marcos workshop to get some repairs done to the car (thank you!)
The city center is easy to reach by the collectivo (2bob pp) that passes by in front of the gate.
The area is very calm and there are some shops closeby for basics.
We recommend wholeheartedly.

Report Check-In

being able to get caught up on maintenance stuff was really great. nice facilities. some good views. dog friendly. but woof, it's a bear to get to here. very steep and far away from the city. a couple of tiendas close by but not much else. the edge of town is about 3km and the good parts a are at 5km. so basically requires taking a taxi down for 10-15ish and up for 20-30. double that if it's late, and that adds up on already 50pppd. stay 5 nights get one free so we really enjoyed our 6 night stay, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back.

Report Check-In

This is more a working space than a campground 😀. Fits for max 6 cars in front of the garage with some materials around.
The owners are very friendly and there are 2 toilets and showers, an old kitchen and a "living room".
but maybe the best you can get in La Paz?

Report Check-In

We have just arrived...it looks really great. Just want to say to other Overlander: Don't trust Google! Call Marcos and he will give you instructions, how to reach the place easy. Google leads you maybe the fastest, but not the easiest way.

Report Check-In

Great place, hot!! showers, kitchen living room and not to forget very helpful owners Arawi and Marcos. We spend 2 times 2 nights and in between we hiked the Takesi Trail (very recommended). We used our own gear, no guides and slept in our tent during the 3-day trek. Easy to organize yourself. Just arrange a taxi to Minas San Francisco to start the trek and for your return take local transport back to La Paz from Yanagachi (or go down to Florida to have more collectivos coming along). Better to use a GPS to follow the trail.
https://nl.wikiloc.com/routes-wandelen/el-takesi-de-mina-san-francisco-a-yanacachi-114622648 (El Takesi desde la mina San Francisco a Yanacachi). Prepare for cold first night and take your own food/drinks. Water can be used from the river and purified along the route

Report Check-In

at 50 bob/ person not the cheapest for bolivian standerds but there are bot many alternatives around la paz. the place is great though: nice warm showers, kitchen and good wifi + Marcos and Arawi are super friendly. Marcos will help with any technical issue if he can, very helpfull and good mechanic!

Report Check-In

Excellent place to discover la paz. In 20min or less with the collectivo you are at the teleferico. Marcus helped us with se basic stuff at our car and had an answer for every problem. 50 Bolivianos per person per night. Laundry, refill gas bottles and good wifi.

Report Check-In

We stayed here for about a week. It’s a great place with easy access into town on bus or taxi. Marcos is incredibly helpful and also did a bunch of work on our van. Clean bathrooms and a full kitchen. Good wifi.

Report Check-In

Perfect place to park your van (or bigger) and visit la paz. 🤟

Report Check-In

Thank you, Marcos, for your friendliness, patience and help!!! There are not many people (and I have met quite a lot in my lifetime and on several continents) who can compare - as for the rest, see the other's comments. I wholeheartedly agree with everything positive 👍👏

Report Check-In

As per the other comments... great place to stay, lots of overlanders pass through. Marcus is an excellent host.
I spent a week here with MAN big rig.
Collective to the cable car station for 10bob, then to the city centre for next to nothing!
Good idea to call Marcus (WhatsApp number see other comments) to ensure a space....it gets busy with rigs, motor bikes n tents etc.
I did the Death Road MTB tour with Gravity Bolivia, 125usd. Not the cheapest, but easily the best value.

Report Check-In

Excelente lugar para campers. La epecial atención de Marcos en todos los detalles lo convierten en un lugar fantástico para hacer parada técnica aprovechando el taller. Muchas gracias.

Report Check-In

This place is perfect for a break during travelling, offering all the necessary comfort. Marcos and Arawi are very warm and welcoming people, also very helpful. They give information about how to visit their city, and other places in their beautiful country. We’ve stayed 8 days and did a lot of maintenance on our camper. For technical things, we could ask the advice and help of Marcos. It looks like he knows how to fix everything! He even solved our electricity problem, wich we were struggling with already for more than 2 years. He also replaced the shocks on our truck. Thank you so much for offering this special place for Overlanders, Marcos and Arawi!
If you want to go there, best send Marcos a message in advance, he will inform you about the best road to drive there, depending on which direction you are coming from. Don’t rely on Maps.me, once we came close, we were sent into wrong streets twice. From ‘Avenida the strongest’, take ‘Avenida Javier del Granada’ and follow this street until you reach Las Lomas campground.

First reputation after the pandemic: Everything still as good as described. Thanks Marcos for all your support with information and axis oil 😊

Marcos is a hero - he can solve just about any problem. (Refilled our Canadian propane tank.) He speaks perfect English. The location is great for exploring La Paz. 50 bol pp/pn. Convenient public transport. Very quiet. Good shopping at HyperMaxi. Previous comments tell it all. We would emphasize that you contact Marcos before you arrive so he can help you find the best route around this busy city. Also, space is tight at the campground so he can tell you if you will fit. We had some problems getting level but it is manageable. We loved our stay at Las Lomas. Highly recommended.

Report Check-In

We spent a week at this Place. Marcos, the owner is a really nice and helpful guy. There was no Problem, he could not solve. We needed some maintenance work on our motorbikes, repair our tankbags and other small things to do. He organized everything which was a great help.
Also he speaks very good english.

Hi everybody! I’m Arawi, Marcos’ wife and manager of the place. I’m writing this post to let you know that after a busy year we’ll take vacations during January 2020, the campground will be closed and we’ll open again on February 1st.
Thank you for understand and sorry for the inconvenience that this can cause, enjoy La Paz !!

Report Check-In

Marcos is such a kind and generous host, and this campsite is a GREAT place for you to stay in La Paz. Marcos can refill your propane, he has the best HOT high pressure shower, a full kitchen for overlanders, drinking water, laundry machine, fast internet - everything you could possibly need. And, he's a mechanic with a workshop right there for you to do your repairs. We stayed 2 weeks during political protests and felt safe and at home with Marcos and his family. Definitely recommend!

Report Check-In

Marcos is the best! We enjoyed our time here. Good wifi and best shower since months!

Report Check-In

As all others have said, a great place to stay on the edge of La Paz, especially if you need some help with your vehicle. Marcos is so friendly and experienced with both mechanical and electrical issues that he will do anything to help. The kitchen is handy and there's a small lounge for socialising. Wi-Fi isn't bad, and it's an easy collectivo ride to the teleferique to visit town. Definitely worth a visit!

Report Check-In

Here Marcos can refill Chilean bottle!!! Yes!!! It is possible! Marcos is an amazing person who helped us a lot, also checked our car! He is very clever and carefoul! And also very welcoming. He and his wife answer our messages straight away and even that they don’t have an adaptor they said immediatelly we will do it anyhow... which was very nice from them. Very welcoming family with a big heart which can do everything pn your van, Marcos is very handy and knows what he is doing. The place is very clean and nice. Really good vibes :) highly recommend! Marcos has got a high rump so he can check the car with you, also you can wash your car here (jetwash! Amazing! Amd hoover!) you can cook in his kitchen, do laundry and relax :)

Report Check-In

Can only join all the other compliments! Marcos helped us with pretty much EVERYTHING that has to do with van life. He will go with you around town till you find the spares you need, fix your car, provide the best shower in SA (better than home even) and assist with local bureaucracy. Honestly he's the most resourceful guy we've met and this has been by far the best mechanic experience we had in over 6 months.

Report Check-In

We stayed 6 days at Marcos’s place. Ideal if you have to or want to work on your car. I had to work on my steering which took more than one day. We slept in our camper still on the ramp. Perfect. Marcos is a very friendly man and a very skilled mecanic. And for a very reasonable price too. Highly recommended.

Report Check-In

Great place! We made it up in a tiny car and we’re having a great stay. Our kids and dog are welcome and the shower is great. Kitchen is well equipped and clean and fully working order. Great place to stay in la Paz!

We almost didn't make it up to the camping with our car but it was the perfect place to go as Marco fixed the car working on it the following morning! He's very helpful and trustworthy!

Report Check-In

This is heaven for overlanders! Marcos, the owner, is our hero! You'll find everything you need: propane to refill your tank, a garage with tools to fix your vehicle, kitchen, dining room, HOT water, WiFi and good vibes! You can even wash your vehicle. Marcos is also a mechanic will help you as much as he can. We'll never forget how much he helped us with our van. It is a rough drive to get here but it is totally worth it. Just be patient, you'll find the oasis ;)

The perfect overlander mix. Camping ground, propane refills, super hot shower and workshop.....thank you for all the care.

Report Check-In

It’s a good place to camp in La Paz, easy to reach if you know La Paz, but surely you don’t know this city and you will have problems driving in this hell of steep streets and crazy traffic. The first time driving there from El Alto city was complicated, that’s why we’re posting this comment with tips to reach La Lomas camp ground.
If you select this place as a first destination on maps.me you will get lost and after hours you will pray for a helicopter rescue, so this is better:
For Maps.me: 1. if you are in El Alto city select as your first destination “Mercado de Achumani”, the navigator will guide you through an asphalted road “Carretera El Alto-Mallasa”, just follow the asphalt to the city, don’t take any intersection to gravel roads, ignore maps.me and follow the asphalt. 2. Once you finally reach Mercado de Achumani find the camping Las Lomas and follow the suggested rod…..patience and good mood in La Paz.

Report Check-In

We came here finding help for our VW T4 suspension, in Bolivia is not possible find parts for this model and we had many problems.
Marcos and Freddy found the way to resolve the problems, we had to adapt different shock absorbers to our van, now after 5000 kms I can say that the “invention” is working perfectly, the made a nice and clean job.
The camp ground in OK, we spent there 5 days during the reparation like in home.

Report Check-In

We arrived during the afternoon and nobody was there, we tried knocking the gate with no luck. After some minutes a man told us that the owner lives just in front of the place, so, we ring the bell of the house and fortunately the owner was there. (Is the black house just in front of the gate)

The place is very nice and quiet, we were there alone for two days checking and cleaning our truck.

We recommend send a message before arriving.
