Utah Raptor State Park. Several large open camping areas. Some good wind protection. Popular on weekends. More campsites on the north side of the road in the next mile or two. Road is a bit rough but not bad most of the way.
Saw some big rigs in but it could be tough with the sandy area just past second cattle gate currently, oct 2020.

Stayed 5 days. Great spot. Amazing night ysky. 1 bar Verizon. State park ranger drove the area in the morning but did not approach. No one waschecking on payment of fees.
There were Porta-potties and a dumpster.
When you exit highway 191 to enter Dalton Rd, and pass the construction site, there is a wash area with soft sand. 4WD is NOT needed. I went steady in a regular van at 15mph in 2nd gear and cruised thru no problem. 5th wheelers are passing thru the wash no problem.
Area picks up in activity on weekends with atvs and motorcycles.
Report Check-In4WD required? Just a quick note to fellow 2-wheelers that we got stuck in a Ram Promaster right at the beginning of the road after the cattle barrier where you cross a sandy wash before the gravel road restarts. We could have probably made it despite being full with gas, propane, and water IF we had switched traction control off (I forgot). Ultimately we bottomed and plowed sand until we got stuck a few feet before the paved road restarts. This is just to say don't be as stupid as I was, if you attempt it turn traction control off and go for it flat out and keep your fingers crossed. Personally I won't try again, too much hassle :-)
Report Check-InThis is officially utahraptor state park now. $15/night you can pay online or at a pay station, someone comes around every day to make sure you’ve paid. There is porta potties and a dumpster available.
The road coming in was a bit rough and possibly impassable after a heavy wet rain through the wash. It’s very quiet out here. Close to Moab and Arches.
Dispersed camping
Sandy/Rut road, about 1 mile northeast of highway 191
Wide open for dogs to run free
Beautiful spot. I had no problem on the road, but it can be bumpy in spots and I imagine a night if the ground is wet. Many clearings for camping along the road, with good distance between spots. Some have little fire pits created. Would recommend!
Report Check-Inopen spaces with great rock formations. I was able to get in with my tiny low van but go slow if you’re in a low car. It can also get SUPER WINDY and turn into a sandstorm - rattled my car for most of the night. Came back the next night and there was no wind or sand blowing everywhere.I checked out Willow Road 1 mile up the road but it’s too sandy for me.
Report Check-InBig open camping area with several rock fire pits. Drove on bumping gravel road and one patch of sand with a 2WD sprinter and was totally fine, just took it at a trot. Lovely green rocks and expansive view.
Report Check-Innice place off the hwy. lots of other on the weekend with ATV, motorcycles but not bad..
when you cross the second cattle gate there is a 40 ft long sand wash that you need 4x4 or a good running start.. We tried it in a 2 wd and got almost the whole way through.. plenty of folks to pull you out.
we drove up main road and camped on left side by the green hills area.. mostly level and not a lot of stones etc.
with solar facing the right direction you get a day full of sun to charge batteries..
further down the road is more areas to camp with a bit is a rough area to like a swell to go over with some rock on side..
the wind blow from North mainly so this is up wind of all the road dust.. (which can be a lot at times on weekends)
ATT was OK iwth MINO antenna.. a wilson would be better or a We boost RV etc. T moblie was very little till you get back up to 191 more or less. this is about 8 miles or so from arches entrance and 16 from canyonland, Dead Horse State park area.
would return in future..
in closing we did see many a MH large and small go through the sand area.. in talking to one guy he was saying the sand was worst he has seen in 6 yrs of coming here.. so it might or might not be that bad. .
Report Check-InGorgeous and peaceful...can see the highway but only hear total silence...not good reception. A bit less traveled in this area. Enjoy the view and remember to always pack it out...thank you
Report Check-InTHE BEST place to pull off and camp. You are surrounded by emerald colored rock on two sides, and snow covered mountains in the distance. Perfect place for a dog to play off leash too. It was so quiet and peaceful. No trouble driving out sprinter van out there even after the rain. 2 bars of service for Verizon.
Report Check-Insuch an amazing view and quiet, just a perfect place for few nights
Report Check-InOne large open camping area. Some good wind protection. Popular on weekends. More campsites on the north side of the road in the next mile or two.
