take the good graveled road to the mexican hat rock. In front of the rock there is a parking lot - some cars/rv could stay there. very quiet. Some more spots by 4x4 close to the river. Now in november no problem, during summertime could be busy place.
The fee is $15/night. They check daily.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
I want to clarify the reports that this a paid site now. This is only partially correct, the BLM camping still exists. There is some private land within sight of Mexican Hat Rock that has become paid Dry camping. The road to this area is about 2-3 miles north of the town of Mexican rock on the right when heading north on 163. When you enter the road there is a sign saying its private paid camping which is a bit misleading. If you drive in about a 1/4 mile there will be a fork in the road, to the right is paid but to the left is BLM. there are a couple of sites on the way down the hill but more camping at the bottom near the river. We stayed at the top but others went down the hill so I cannot vouch for the lower sites. It was quiet except for some dust coming from the paid camping area. No facilities available, pack out what you pack in.
Report Check-InWe camped on the road that goes to the rock called Mexican Hat. There is a sign that says you need to pay online but we had no service plus we didn't feel comfortable giving our cc info to some site we didn't know who owns it. it never states how much the cost is either. The road is gravel which was nice since it was rainy. There are quite a few dirt pull offs on the road to stay at but we found a gravel pullout. A nice quiet place to spend the night with a beautiful view.
Report Check-InBeautiful area, nice spots. Fee is now $23.21 per night (includes tax and nightly service fee.) Pay online at www.mexicanhatrocks.com.
Report Check-InThis is private land and the fee to camp is 15 dollars plus about 4 bucks in fees.
Report Check-InStayed 1 night here, had no issue! Super quite and amazing star view.
Report Check-InNew sign posted at the area to purchase a $25 permit online to camp near Mexican Hat overnight. Not free anymore.
Report Check-InGreat spot. Only about 4-5 pull offs before the road takes a steep drop with some potholes, saw some sedans do it but I didn’t want to risk not getting back up in the morning. Super super windy. Great ATT service.
Report Check-InNot closed! So gorgeous. Wide open spaces with brbtb tbt bbt.
a clear gravel road and many pull offs. Just be sure the stay on the road. It can be bumpy in places. Pack it out! I just picked up a beer bottle… people who throw their trash around in these magical places suck.
Closed. Piles of earth have been heaped across the access. Obviously BLM does not want campers here, but the spaces further down the track are still available.
Report Check-InBeautiful and quiet spot right on front of Mexican Hat. A few tourists came to take photos during the day. Lots of available spots around further away from the Mexican Hat.
Report Check-InNice large area and easily accessible. Plenty of spots for any sort of camper/rig/car/tent. Would stay here again.
Full bars of 3G ATT service.
