We did the afternoon tour at Tololo and didn't want to drive far. As you head back to the highway before the 33km market there's a dirt road on the right. We parked near a tree. Windy in late afternoon but dies down later. Quiet and starry skies. Lots of parakeets before sun goes down and again before sun comes up.

Nice and very quiet place, but unfortunately a lot of waste. Don’t need the observatory - you can see all stars from here.
