Latest Check-Ins

Maybe I’m just a baby but this road was SCARY in a 2WD Promaster 2500. The road sometimes gets very narrow along the cliff and if anyone else would have been going the other way at that point, someone would have had to back up or down the mountain. Scary in a camper van. Road was rough, but doable if you’re super determined. I turned around at the trailhead halfway up because it wasn’t worth it to me to keep struggling the whole way up.

Report Check-In

Quiet Peaceful and absolutely beautiful. Highly recommend

Great spot. top of the Mt. roadbis bumpy and a lot of ruts so not for a class a or even c. class b with 4x4 is fine. several spots along the road as well.

Report Check-In

narrow dirt road isn't difficult but dangerous because it's often too narrow for 2 trailers to pass.

also the nighttime activities of shooting guns and partying was pretty obnoxious, didn't sleep until past midnight with all the noise.

Report Check-In

absolutely beautiful spot overlooking the mountains/Colorado Springs. free camping up to 14 days. lots of people here for February, but we scored this dispersed campsite to ourselves. kind of a rough road to get up, needed 4x4 with all the snow

Report Check-In

Pretty windy at night but beautiful views of the whole area. Easy access but beware of some high rocks that will damage your vehicle if not navigated.

Update: It was so pretty I came back, this time mid-week, and camped up top. It was just fine.

I am sooo glad I stopped here. I leveled myself and got settled but, surrounded by trees I wondered if there were more “epic” views farther up the road. I took a walk.

Yes, definitely, but the vibe was weird, people! Trash, clothing, tons of tp, and then guys cursing, guns shooting, columns of smoke and noisy vehicles.

The rock formations are incredible and worth seeing FOR SURE. It also sounds like there are long views but it’s cloudy today, so no purple mountain majesty* for me.

Anyway, when I walked back down to my vehicle everything felt palpably more peaceful. This is despite being in a hairpin of the road, which is never ideal. These evergreen trees feel like a warm welcome. It’s good to be home.

* Did you know that line was inspired by Pikes Peak?

P.S. Sun is coming out and Epic is right across the road (even my dog thinks so)!

This place is so epic. Found an amazing spot near the top. Awesome view. Road is a little bumpy but not any big rivets or anything. I made it up in my 2wd van with all terrain tires. Amazing view. I could stay here forever. It’s national forest land so I think you can actually stay up to two weeks.

Report Check-In

Definitely rough road, but no need for 4WD, awesome views and quiet!

Report Check-In

Dirt road mostly narrow up to the top we did it in our 20’ camper we didn’t use de 4Wd
There are not many spots on the way up, we found the best one with plenty of space near a rock on the top

Report Check-In

Rough road not turnaround areas. 50 minutes to go 5 miles.

Report Check-In

Very rough road, no turn around spot first 5 miles. Didn’t see camp spot off main road.

Report Check-In

Dirt road spur towards the top of the hill.

Report Check-In

Up a bunt dirt road, but my 26ft class c up here this summer just fine! Found the first spot big enough to park, and it’s a magnificent view. Mountains 3 out of 4 directions around you, overlooking a vast expanse of land and town in front. I may never leave

Report Check-In

Long bumpy drive up on dirt road. Not suitable for RVs or trailers. 4WD recommended. Great hikes nearby. Spot is a small-ish dirt lot. There are a couple pull-thrus before & after the GPS location.

Report Check-In

The road is mostly washboard and it narrows quite a bit toward the top, but we made it up in our Chevy Express okay. The road made me personally nervous, but there were sedans up at the top as well. Really great sites up at the top with fire pits and views. Verizon has 1 or 2 bar 4g.

Report Check-In

There is one nice spot about 4.5 miles up the dirt road. We didn’t see any suitable spots before that but the one at the top is nice and large enough for several rigs. The dirt road is fairly heavy traveled by locals and we got strange looks all night. It’s a nice area with a cool landscape. The road is easy and well maintained, we saw several sedans cruising up it.

Report Check-In

Great location is snow wasn’t in the forecast. Altitude is actually 6800 not 2600. Also do t know what OP means by “several” spots on the way up. Maybe just pull outs on the cliffs. No place to actually camp.

Report Check-In

We didn’t go all the way to the top as noted by the original poster. We were about 2 miles down from there (according to our gps). We are camped right next to the trail head. We chose here to protect from the wind.
We saw a couple other cars on our way up.
The road is quite narrow and bumpy.
I’ll add a photo when it’s daylight
