Description

Its a perfect stop for a night between Eldoret and Lodwar or Eliye Springs.
Nice Bandas (1000KSH single / 1500 KSH Double per room/night). Rooms 600KSH per room. Camping also possible.
Food cheap and good. Ablutions basic.
This camp is part of the peace initiative run by Cuisine sans frontières and helped to reduce conflicts between the Turkana and Pokot People. Also because of that the road is safe today. Worth to support.

Good place to get in touch with locals.

Agreed , very friendly local place. Camping for free next to the restaurant. Food good and cheap. Beer is warm, but don't bother. Friendly people arround to talk to. The place was started by Rolf, the sympathic Swiss guy that owns Elyi Springs lodge at lake Turkana. Interesting to talk to him about this and other project he does to foster peace between Turkana and Pokot tribe.

Unique place in the area, with friendly staff! We stayed at Calabash when we went to visit the Tuckwel Dam.
It offers both private Bandas and dorms for groups; Camping is possible, however we chose a Banda to sleep.
The food is freshly cooked, both local and international food is offered at reasonable prices. Toilet facilities are basic but they provide everything you need. Good place to visit and to support!

A lovely stop for a night. We stayed in a dorm room (6 beds but we had the place to ourselves as a 3) at 400 ksh per person. Breakfast extra. It’s 1500 for a double banda including breakfast and they would have been happy to just charge us for 1 extra breakfast had we have chosen that option for the 3 of us. Music was a bit loud for our taste but the staff explained that this keeps the locals from being bored and fighting and as this is a place which connects the two previously conflicting tribes through its kitchen/food, that is really important! It’s a lovely setting just back from the road in some trees. Food was excellent. Staff were very helpful and accomodating with very good English. Clean drop toilet. Shower wasn’t working but they gave us a Jerry can of warm water. Very much enjoyed our stay here. Bedding freshly put on beds :)
