Description

Border crossing to the kurdish part of Iraq.
30 days visa free for most countries. Check before leaving Iran. There is no turning back!

Iran immigration made me pay 20 US Dollar fuel charge before leaving the country.

IRAN: "Tourist DONOT pay any Tax!"

Iraq immigration made me buy insurance 40 US Dollar for 3 month.

Chaotic crossing with lots of paperwork and running around.
Even copied the carnet (not needed in Iraq) and try to scan my dog with all my luggage.

very bad border. I went from Iraq to Iran with car.
I played 44us$ to exit Iraq, don't know why. Also they did not want 50$ note, they wanted 100$ note and gave me the change in Iraq dinar.
Hurrah we reach Iran side and it is getting worse. Car is checked 3 times by 3 different people. It took ages to fill the CdP. The end is after 4h (13-17) border the insurance is closed. I can sleep here till 8 in the morning.
No idea how much I have to pay extra tomorrow.

One of the worst border crossing of my traveling career. From Iraqi Kurdistan to Irani Kurdistan. On Iraqi side process went quite smoothly, customs did their work thoroughly but efficient. The Iranian side was a different story. First the customs let me wait for 2 hours because it was raining and didn't want to check my car in the rain. Then I had to unpack everything to go trough x-ray, and with everything I mean literally everything, all the lose items in the car, the contents of my roof case, the refrigerator, everything. When going trough the x-ray, while I was loading everything in the machine, they let everything drop on the floor at the other end of the machine. They didn't warn me about the things dropping on the floor and my belongings were over the floor. In the meantime the were having a laugh at me. After packing everything back in the car I had to pay € 44 road taxes but the bank was already closed by then so I had to leave the car at the border, and get back the next morning to finish that process, which also took going back and forth to different desks. I In the end the whole process took about 15 hours

I wish we had a similar experience 😩 coming from Iraqi Kurdistan into Iran. We were probably unlucky, the border was packed with over a dozen busses and hundreds of travellers.

Clearing the Iraqi customs took 2,5 hours. The Peshmerga turned the car upside down. First time ever we had to open the entire rooftoptent for a check. We also got our carnet stamped when we entered, but they didn’t want to give us an exit stamp.

Iran side went really fast en smooth. Maybe 30 minutes max.

People on both sides were very friendly. Lots of selfies :-)
