Description

Epic view of the surrounding mountains as well as on Lago Cochrane. You can literally see for miles, if good weather. You can walk up from the campground and have lunch here, there are tables and shelter. Takes around 1.5 hrs, the walk isn't too exciting though. Rather take the car up to the trailhead and use this place to end the Lago Chico trail with nice meal :)

The mirador and trailhead for Lago Chico is best accessible if you have a 4x4 with high clearance. Otherwise, you can take the car up to maybe 50% of the way where you'll find a sign saying "4WD only" next to a small parking lot, enough space for one or maybe two cars.

Campsite closed so had to park on the road and walk up nearly 7 km on good gravel road (1.5 hrs) . Great shelter with lots of benches and tables except wind was blowing straight in so ended up picnicking around the side! Went on to do Laguna Chico walk - easy enough but long day. Superb view including glaciers on San Lorenzo.

Really worth it! Amazing view to the Cochrane lake. Road to parking camping and parking lots where close when we visited but could walk from the main road.

We follow the advice that said that it was possible to drive with a 2WD van until half the pathway and we should NOT! And it is absolutly not possible to turn back before the small parking.... it was a lot of stress !!!We don't recommand at all to drive without high clearance on this road. But yes, the view at the mirador is beautifull and they are table with wind protection ;)

Beautiful viewpoint with wind and rain shelter. We drove with our 4x4 until the parking lot of the Lago Chico trailhead. From there it's 500 m to the mirador and the roundtrip of Lago Chico passes by anyway (so we hiked it in the opposite direction). The parking of the mirador is accessible by 4x4, but the first part from the Lago Chico parking is quite steep, you need high clearance. The rest of the road from the campsite is an easy 4x4 track, all gravel.

Amazing view! We talked to the ranger but he didn't ask us to pay anything. Drove all the way up. :)

Indeed great view!
Story that Thompson sat here, saw this view and decided it should be protected as National Park.

Good views indeed, especially on sunset.

We managed to arrive to the parking 500m away from the viewpoint. There is closer one but has grassy/sand incline that we did not dear to do with standard tires and heavy camper at the back.

The rest of the road is manageable, except the steep hill in the 1st km on the route. If you can make that, you can make the rest easily.

Our car was 2.2m wide and 3.2m tall.

Wow, that’s an amazing view! But I think I liked the view from the big rock at the far end of Sendero Lago Chico even better. The shelter is nice.

Amazing view! You can go up if you have a 4WD or walk the last 3km. Really worth it!

Great view,. Now, you have to pay 8000 CLP to be allowed to go there (by hiking or 4wd), which is a bit expensive

Report Check-In

Absolutely well worth it, even if you have to walk from the 2WD 3km below

amazing mirador!
Road to the start of sendero Lago Chico is doable with a 4x4 with high clearence campervan (we have a Fiat Ducato 4x4, about 25cm clearence)
