Four Campgrounds in State Vehicular Recreation Area (Walnut, Camp Lodge, Bee, Madrone) plus a fifth that is slightly more primitive (Radio Ridge). No hookups, free hot showers, free WiFi, potable water, picnic tables, fire pits, some ramadas. Noisy with many dirt bikes and quads in the day, quiet in the night except weekends.
$10/night.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
As of this date, the entire Hollister Hills SVRA is closed due to road damage from flooding. They do not yet have an anticipated opening date. Before trying to camp here, check their FB page to see if they are open. Road crews told us all gates to access the park are closed and locked.
Report Check-InAmazing place! They are in a testing phase of "Reserve California", but up to now you just need a profile there, you can't reserve. 10$, wifi and hot shower, like described before. You just have to pay at the entrance (Ranger or ticket machine) and then you can go to the Campground you want to and take a free place.
Report Check-InGreat camping spot. $10 with hot showers. All the weekend people leave on Sunday afternoon then you have the place to yourselves. I’m here to ride motorcycles so the noise doesn’t bother me. Don’t stay here if during the day you want peace and quiet. This is a OHV park. Great place and did I say they have hot showers.
Report Check-Invery nice secluded lil campground, $10 entry fee first come first serve—IT IS A DIRT BIKE HANGOUT people with dirt bikes like to come here as the park has many dirt bike trails, and they will start revving their bikes early in the morning
Report Check-InI don't know what unholy power the OHV lobby has with the CA State Parks system, but bless them. Regular state parks are $25-$45/night + $8 "reservation fee" and then you pay for showers, if they're even available.
SVRAs, otoh, are $0-$15/night. This one is $10/night with free unlimited hot showers in private rooms, free WiFi (for real! I didn't believe it until I logged in), potable water, and flush toilets. No hookups, and lots of loud dirt bike and quad activity during the day. BUT they don't allow off-roading at night, so the mid-week evenings are quiet. Campsites are in a canyon, underneath beautiful oak trees, with picnic tables, fire pits, and some sites have ramadas. There are quail, wild turkeys, and even a very friendly cat who belongs to the store and roams freely.
There are many campsites very close together and it's a bit of a free for all in terms of where any one space begins or ends. I wouldn't want to be here on a weekend, or anytime it was full! But a midweek stay is great.
Beware the poison oak if you go wandering down any trails. There are non-motarized/regular hiking trails that begin off the end of the Madrone campground.
Report Check-InFriendly staff. Madrone campground is farthest from off-road vehicle trails and you can walk to hiking trails. Hot showers, private room bathrooms, garbage & recycling. Some other campgrounds can view off-roading if you're looking for entertainment. If you want quiet: Madrone.
Report Check-InGreat deal for $10. Easy self registration. Overall great place to stop over for cheap. A bit dirty but just because of the environment being geared towards motorsports. We arrived at about 9pm in November, the property is very dark and not east to find your way around giving it’s a motorsports facility with dozens and dozens of dirt roads. The map to find camp grounds in the facility can be confusing.
Report Check-InGreat deal for a campground in California! Showers are nice, WiFi is insanely fast (50-70Mbit/s Up and download). 10$ is a very good deal. Motocross riders start early (around 8am) but very quiet at night.
Report Check-In$10 to camp - self register in the evening via machine. Covered picnic tables and fire pits. Pit toilets here, I think down the road near the little store has flush toilets and maybe showers? I didn’t go inside the building. This spot had some rad animal night life happenin and was the most elevated so I drove back to it. SRVA friendly. Quiet in the evening, but a few people were already on the tracks around 6am, still not too noisy but if you’re looking to sleep in maybe don’t
Report Check-InFour Campgrounds in State Vehicular Recreation Area. No hookup, warm Showers free, noisy in day but quiet in the night, except weekend.
