Description

Really good trial to 2 different points : Laguna Encantada, 3.5km one way, easy
Laguna de los Tempanos, 4.5km one way, medium/hard - depends on conditions underfoot. You can continue until touching the glacier, there is a little ice cave.
Be careful, the trail could be very muddy !

We really enjoyed the hike After driving weeks through the pampa. Amazing landscape!

Report Check-In

It is a good hike, muddy and most part in the forest, but the view and the place at the top is worthy. The round trip is 15km, 650 m d+. You can take a few steps more and go into the glacier but be careful and ask locals and guides if it's doable.

the gate for the road is closed here. a little side gate open to push through. parking for like 4 cars here on the right just before this last interaction. this park is dog friendly. we decided to get left at the fork near the beginning to walk to Laguna Caminante. this hike enters the national park, which dogs are not allowed to enter and was equal parts mud and horse shit but it was pretty this time of year with the colors of the trees changing and very little elevation gain until the very end compared to the glacier hike. 22.5km round trip.

we did the hikes to both Lagunas. partially really muddy, but the fun part was crossing the river to get to Laguna de los tempanos. If you're on the way up: follow the "path" next to the woods, somehow cross the muddy grass till the river branches. There you have better options for a kind of dry crossing.
Laguna encantada: seems like no-one is doing it so there are no detours for the muddy parts

Overall a good hike up to a pale blue lake and glacier (it reminded us a lot of Laguna Churrup in Peru). Steep in places, especially the last km of scree up to the lake. Also, incredibly muddy, both down by the river and higher up in the trees too. Poles helpful for balancing on the branches to stay out of the mud! Take waterproofs, the weather can be very changeable at the top! We did there and back in about 4 hours. Trail is well marked but hard to see in places due to the mud; maps.me's route was pretty accurate.

Absolutely beautiful hike, totally worth. We did Laguna Encantada and Glaciar Vinciguerra. Very muddy, because of the “turbas” so highly recommended waterproof shoes/boots.

Great hike! We did 14 km totally, because we walked a bit further to see the glacier very near. Yes muddy, so high ankle and waterproof hiking boots recommended. Enjoy!

We did the Laguna del de Los Tèmpanos trek and it is absolutely beautiful!
About 11 km with around 600 m elevation, first 2 km are pretty flat and than you start climbing. Very muddy! so be ready to get a bit dirty, walking sticks helps a lot. Once you get up, if you go around the laguna from the right there is an ice cave behind it. The laguna is so beautiful and the ice cave is very cool (both literally and figuratively). I think this is my favorite trek in Ushuaia.

We were confused when we arrived at the gate, it said no trespassing, see the picture. You go thru the gate anyways! Highly recommend these hikes, absolutely beautiful!!! Minimum mud for us, don’t forget your sunglasses for the snow field (I did, ouch).

Report Check-In

The trail was too much muddy, so we gave up after 2 km and had to turn back. It would be possible to do the trail in rubber boots. Such a pity :-(

Great hike, caves were cool but definitely muddy. Listed in gray on iOverlander but not closed. Be careful as it really can get sticky, we took poles and they helped tremendously.

We did the glacier trail (Laguna Los Tempanos). It was approx 10km round-trip from parking and 500m elevation gain, 3 steep parts but rest ok, took us 4.5hrs round-trip including a half hour lunch break. You can park just outside the trail or at the Los Humedales cafe. So cool to be up close and personal with the glacier and ice caves!! A must-do in Ushuaia and it’s free :)
