Stopped here for the night to break up the drive to Cocuy National Park. Awesome views with open, level parking. Visible from the road but there was no traffic after sunset until about 5:30am. A good amount of used toilet paper and poop laying around near the brick shack, so keep an eye on your dog (if you have one). Super friendly locals that came by to take a picture of sunset and work on the religious shrine.

Oh - and properly chilly for a wonderful night’s sleep!

Great spot to stop for the night en route to el cocuy. Some trash behind the trash cans, asked a few locals as the stopped to look at the view if it was okay to stay here and they all said it was fine and that the road is quiet at night

Here as described. A few locals coming past but felt safe in my tent. You can pitch behind the building and be more or less hidden from the road. No running water but there are streams on the climb up here.

We had to stop here for the night because it was getting dark and the road 64 is REALLY bad. Even gravel lot, an altar where some locals stop to pray, and some trash cans (recycling!), minimal cell reception, no amenities. Quiet, cool, felt safe although the place is clearly visible from the road. And the view in the morning was priceless!

absolutely stunning location! I have not camped there, but I am sure it will be a great spot to sleep! There is not much traffic, as it is a dirtroad in the middle of the mountains. ;-)

we stopped for lunch here. Beautiful view. There's trash everywhere eventhough there are some trash cans near by.

Big pullout with nice views, but a surprising amount of traffic. Cars and motorcycles were passing by until ~20:00 and starting at 4:00 in the morning.

A lot of them indeed use the pullout as a pee stop next to the brick building.

No one bothered us, but you are also clearly visible from the road.

Surprisingly, there is a public trash can with recycling.

No cell service (Tigo LTE drops in and out).

I didn't camp there as it was too early for me to stop but I've found the place pretty filthy, there are a lot of rubbish around and the worst is behind the little house where everyone seems to use as toilet.
The view is great and I'm sure it's very quiet at night.
But not sure I'ld pinch my tent there unless I haven't any other option.

1. The road offers stunning views and different wonderful landscapes. But the road itself is a dirt road with a lot of denivelee, so don't take it if you have no time. And because the road is not wide, I wouldn't do it with a big RV. No problem with our 6m long van. For us it worth it !
2. This spot is perfect to sleep or just to make a break.

It’s a big turnout on the road. There is no traffic at night so it’s calm. The peoples living in the surroundings are nice and friendly. They welcomed us and we had a nice chat with them.

What a road! Best drive in Colombia so far. It took 4 hours to drive here from San Gil. Prox one our of it went to digging and pulling our one small Renault Master. Its pouring down right now and some small streams what are running over the road have carried lots of loose dirt and rocks down stream. If 5cm clearance Renault can drive this road then no excuses no to do it. We did it in heavy 2wd Sprinter without any problems. Views are breathtaking!!!

Safe and convenient stop if you're heading toWard Cocuy. Plenty of flat space with great views of the surrounding mountains. A few dogs around but they'll warm up to you. In the evening and morning there were some workers dropping stuff off from the fincas nearby but were super friendly and said they've seen many other foreigners camping here.

Getting here coming from the north turn left 1.5 km before San Gil towards mogotes and San Joaquín. The Black top only goes until mogotes (nice Little town with friendly People). Then follow the road a few km straight and then it Winds itself up the Mountains. Nice and quiet. It's 2567m high. It's bumpy and you can't go fast at all but the views are very nice and there is not much traffic. Police Said it was safe.
