You need permission of the warden of the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary to use the wild camp at Elephant Rock When we were there we were not allowed to wild camp as there was too much lion activity in the area. We did not call ahead.
Report Check-InHere is a huge boulder with a giant painting of an Elephant which you can camp underneath. There are wild animals so be careful.
This camping spot is very close (1km) to Reteti Elephant Sanctuary but not near a village. It was shown to us by a ranger who works at the lodge and he said it was fine to camp here. No facilities whatsoever, just you and the bush.
It's also possible to camp at the sanctuary but you must give advance notice of at least 1 day.
To find this place, coming from the elephant sanctuary gate drive about 1km then take a left where the track forks, tourists do come here so the path is noticeable. There camp is less than 200m from the track so if you are close to the pin and can see a large boulder, head for that.
