Note than when coming from Granada, Google Maps may take you through this road on your way to Popoyo. We passed this way and the road is horrendous. No 4x4 needed but high clearance is required.
Better to get to Popoyo from Rivas.
We don't have any photos of this place yet.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
The road to Popoyo is now pretty much finished and is now actually better than the road from Rivas (where the last 10km are still unpaved but doable without problem) but the new junction is about 400-500m down the road (direction of Rivas) and not yet visible on Google Maps or Maps.me
Report Check-InWe drove the road today in our Landrover Defender and enjoyed it. Most of the time it’s a dirt road, but parts are already paved. They are in progress building bridges as well. It was definitely muddy - we had rain this morning. High clearance isn’t necessary. Maybe in older days, but through the construction all of the river crossings got good entrances and exit’s.
Report Check-InThis road is presently under construction. They are building bridges over the river crossings and the temporary detours they have built are extremely slippery when wet. We drove on this road on a rainy day. We were driving on 4x4 in a off-road camper. We didn’t have any issues but it should be avoided in wet conditions especially if you don’t have 4x4. Some of the delivery trucks bringing supplies to the construction site did get stuck.
Report Check-InLa route est très belle maintenant. Ils sont même en train de construire des ponts donc même en saison de pluie ce sera très bien!
The road is totally fine now. They are even building bridges so even in the rainy season it will be great!
Report Check-InThis road is totally fine. Clearance recommended but not totally necessary. Drive it in out 83 Dodge Ram b250. All g
Report Check-InJust drove the road to popoyo and its ok. We did it in our Ford F250 and pick up camper and was fine. Not in a bad condition at all. I guess it was repaired recently.
Report Check-InCan confirm that this road is horrible. Didn’t see the warning because I assumed it was in relation to the police stop. Thankfully we have a high clearance vehicle, but it was a horribly long ride down and we were rocking back and forth the whole time. Also there is literally a river that you have to cross. Taking the road from Rivas next time.
Report Check-InThere was a police stop here today, police were hiding but we didn’t cross the yellow line until they showed themselves and waved us through. Not sure what what was going on but we didn’t get pulled over, just laughed at.
