Description

We found this place by chance and really loved it. There’s a big place to park and a big space to hang out in and cook. There’s also a second floor of the building which has a beautiful view of the volcano. Finally there’s a nice breeze and only a few sand flies. The owner Jose is super friendly. He speaks French and Spanish but not English. There’s also a really good hostel (the Good Life) right on the road in front of El Pelegrino where you can go for amazing meals and to use their Internet. They can arrange tours of the volcanoes and other stuff on the island. They can also wash laundry. Overall, staying at El Pelegrino and eating some meals at the Good Life was a perfect combo. Unfortunately, big rigs can’t fit through the gate by our truck camper was fine (the width is this issue not the height). I’m not sure I would really call this an established campground but it has many of the things an established campground would have so that’s how I classified it.

Latest Check-Ins

When we arrived nobody was there. It was already getting dark (late ferry) so we decided to park somewhere wait. After 2h Jose came. Nice but also a bit ,strange’ guy. 6$ pP.

Showers did not really work (bucket with water and a bowl to ,shower‘ the water on yourself- which is totally fine, because the water was very clean). Toilets also flushing only if you do it like in the shower (with the bowl) - also fine for us, just that you know, it is really not a luxury camping ;)

Full use of kitchen etc.

All in all a good and safe option for the first night if it is getting late.

Not sure about the rave review. It felt a bit ramshackle. Hard to find a flat place to park. Toilet wasn’t the cleanest, bathroom sink taps don’t work, if there was a shower we wouldn’t have used it. The contrast with the fun and funky hostel next door was stark but unfortunate it you couldn’t park there. It was safe, cost $12, had good hammocks, and was super close to the good restaurant next door. So, yes, it was fine for one night.

Great place here ! José, the french owner, is a really nice guy. You ça easily talk with him, in french of course or english or spanish. There are dormitories and a big field to camp. We paid 5us$/person for camping. You can pay 5$ more for one laundry machine.

Very nice place, everything as described, price still 6$/ppn. Walking distance to the town with restaurants and supermarket. Leveled parking. Kitchen and common areas are amazing 🤩

Good spot to camp, clean bathroom with decent shower, kitchen and hammocks.
$6USD worth it. Hostel beds and privates too looked nice enough and very peaceful.

Report Check-In

Great spot although not directly at the water. Jose is extremely welcoming. Perfectly clean bathroom and kitchen to use. $5USD per person. The dog is a little defensive around him, but fine.

This place is awesome!!! The view of Concepcion is amazing, nice clean open building with a pool table, hammocks, massive well equipped kitchen. The big murals on the walls are awesome, the one of the island is helpful too! Some low branches on the way in, but anything van-sized should be fine. We had no issues. Jose is psyched to chat or help you make plans. He speaks Spanish, French, Portuguese and Italian. $5pp

Not an ideal spot for tall vans because of the low hanging branches. We decided not to stay because the dog on site is very territorial.

We had a perfect stay and felt very welcome. José is a great host, if you need somthing just let him know. The view on the vulcano is awesome. Clean bathroom and kitchen.

Nice place to sleep and the owner is really very nice. 10$ the night. The driveway is narrow and the trees hang low. With our sprinter it worked out well, moving some branches.

There is a well equipped kitchen and a clean bathroom. The wifi is ok but not very fast. You can relax in hammocks and there is fresh fruit (oranges and bananas).

Since the accommodation is close to the city you can have scooters (15$ per day) delivered to explore the island. We recommend to drive around with a scooter instead of a big motorhome. Partly the roads are very narrow and extremely bad.

You can tell that the accommodation is older but we can recommend it.

Really really wonderful place— highly recommend. Jose is LOVELY, the house is super nice with a huge outdoor shared kitchen you can use. Very clean bathrooms and fast WiFi- cools down at night with a nice breeze and beautiful view of the volcano. We stayed in our van but with full use of the bathrooms and kitchen. We also left our van here during the day and rented an ATV when we got off the ferry- also would highly recommend. Jose’s dogs, Leon and Salsa are also SUPER friendly and at night he puts them to bed ON the pool table!! Really one of our very favorite places we stayed of the trip, highly highly recommend.

Wonderful spot, perfect for staying when arriving from the late ferry or really whenever. The view is magnificent. Internet was strong. Jose was generous. Recommend!

We spent the night with Don Jose, a Spanish man that lives in Nicaragua for 10 years now. He opened that Hospedaje two years ago and the place is very nice: kitchen available, dorm, private room and hammock. Dorm are 7$.
This is a grate place to start hiking the second highest volcano in Nicaragua: be careful tho because you cannot climb the volcan without guide.
Jose is super friendly, built the house by himself and decorated it with beautiful paints.
Super nice place to stay

One correction. Jose is apparently getting Internet in a few days so I listed it as having Internet but I have no idea how good it will be.
