Description

Amazing Cañon! Not very turistic place. 2,5 hours road driving from Ica. It is possible to pass by 2WD. We did it by 4WD - more comfortable. We marked starting road point on iOverlander. You can find info on how to get here on the web : www.cañondelosperdidos.net.
The road has no signs at all. There is a mirador with a super view where you go. On our 6 months trip around SA, this is one of the best. Free!
Better download the GPS tracks before you go, as even with the iOverlander pins it's easy to get lost otherwise.

Latest Check-Ins

This canyon is truly incredible, I highly recommend it especially since it is easy to access with any type of vehicle. The track up to the crossroads is really excellent, after that it's a washboard. We slept here on the promontory overlooking the canyon, the night was very quiet. From here it is possible to go down into the canyon, go see the river and go back up the canyon, it's about 4km. There is no Claro signal.

We came here because we were rejected at Paracas because of our dog. We don't regret to be rejected. This place is just great. The drive is quite rough over bad corrugations at times but so worth it. Highly recommended.
There also a road/track coming from Palpa (see Maps.me) but we could not find a way to cross the canyon. So we would recommend drove back the way we came from in direction Chacaltana. Took us around 2 hours in a Landcruiser. It's possible with any car because it's only a thin layer of sand/gravel over solid rock. But as I said, lots of bad corrugations.

We got lost only because we followed other way points marked! Just follow MAPS.ME to the ‘new road’ marker we added and then turn left and follow the tracks to the canyon. Super quiet even at the weekend. We tried Wikiloc but there are multiple routes and some are not ok with 2wd and it’s not really necessary anyway.

Gone here without a guide. Managed it easily. From Ocucaje we needed about 1,5 h. A lot of washboard so we recommend to let some pressure out of the tires. Spend a very quite friday night at the “mirador”, the next morning (Saturday) we became the attraction for the guided tours making a stop at the mirador as well. The guides asked how we got here, they were a little bit surprised but very friendly. We left Saturday afternoon after walking into the Cañon and on the track about 15 cars with Peruvian plate were on their way to the Cañon. We don’t know if they spend the night there but I guess it could be very loud at the weekend.
We absolutely recommend a visit at the Cañon!

Very cool place, completely in the middle of nowhere, its like driving on the moon to get there. If you go without guide as us, I would highly recommend to download the wikiloc tracks to get here, its so easy to lose track otherwise. We did download the track as suggested by a previous comment and found the canyon fine. We spent the night as well, the wind is vanishes in the night. Of course no facilities, no cell service, absolutely nothing out here.

We went with Luis from Luis and Victoria accommodation. Luis was excellent at wayfinding no problem at all. Lots of sand dust in the van everywhere as the wind dumps them everywhere on the van

Having said that, i don’t know if it’s really worth the detour if you dont stay for the sunset. Very windy by afternoon that you cant even see properly because sand gets into the eyes. But if you stay the colours at night is nice

If you are afraid of getting lost, come on a saturday. We saw 6 other cars here on sat so you could follow the locals in

I tried to add some extra points on iOverlander, but the easiest way is to download some tracks from Wikiloc website and import them into maps.me. If the road is ever too steep or rough, you have probably goNe the wrong way. We managed in our 2WD.

Report Check-In

After a long hard day drive we did not find the canyon.
We ve followed all the relates point with maps.me without success
There is one way but to steep for our defender so we tried to follow a Lot of all tracks
So good luck
