Description

Large, sandy parking area of Mirador Máquina at Rio Petrohue. There are some trees and bushes in the middle of the parking area. We parked directly behind these bushes to be not visible from the road. The river can be reached by walking down the small path. The slower part of the river offers some nice pools for swimming. We saw people fishing here, don‘t know if successful;-)

EDIT: 1 NIGHT STAY LIMIT, see note below.

Stayed here. Really nice place. Many people during the day. Refreshing river just below the parking.

Perfect place. Quiet and safe. One ranger came Said nothing about us. Big rig friendly. Place for many rigs. Sound of river to sleep. Nice view.

Stayed one night in a truck camper without issue. If this pin has visitors, there are two other nearly identical places to spend the night a couple more minutes down the main road (when driving toward the park). Didn't see any "NO" signs at any of them. Firm ground and easy access.

What a beautiful spot, one of the best we stayed in Chile !! Few locals in the evening but we were the only one during the night. Very low 3G. Definitly would go back !

Beautiful spot over the river. We spent 1 night with a camper. Easy access, no need of a 4x4. Not really hidden from the road but still not too close, besides no traffic during the night. Very quiet night. We were 2 campers and no problem. (We were in low season, it might be more busy during high season). Very weak 3G Entel signal and no Claro. Water accessible from the river.

Really nice spot in front of the blue river.

Very busy place, used as a parking lot by people coming and going to the natural pools in the river. There's a not-so-friendly food vendor who comes in the afternoon to sell his stuff to the passers-by, and in the end of the 3rd day, we found a unsigned/unindentified note in plain paper on our windscreen telling us the stay limit was one night. Thinking this was the vendor not happy because we were taking one of 'his' customer spots, we moved further up the road in the direction of Petrohue and stayed a few more days, until a guy in a CONAF uniform knocked at our door and told us that, due to this being a national park, we had to leave the next day. Not nice!

Nice spot, as described before. A little busy during daytime but o.k., after 20 hrs. quiet; fantastic view on the river. Annoying are the horseflies during sunny/warm daytime. We stayed three days and were completely alone (at night).

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot on the edge of a rapid. Rather quiet despite the fact that there are tourist buses in the morning. Beware, we met a couple who were shaken down at this spot. They were told to park at the entrance and invited to come to the waterfront while someone broke their back window and stole their stuff. However, we had no problems and had two very pleasant nights.

We pitched our tent on the other side of the road, by the climbing wall under a big tree. There’s a road going there too, but be careful especially if rained, we got stuck a little bit in the sand going out. Stayed there two nights climbing and met some other climbers only.and climbed, a bit of noise from the road but quiet at night. Plenty of black flies..

this spot is amazing. 1 million time better than the parking. it's so beautifull, you feel so relax and you just have to enjoy the landscape while cooking. it's really quiet, nobody was there except us. that's one of our favorite wild camp in Chile. we park here with our van, it's really easy to access there. no facilities, but water with the river.

Good distance from the Puerto Puella when the ferry gets in at 630pm. We were by bike. It is possible to get tent pegs in the ground down on the part by the water and gorse. First it is sand then the deeper stuff is a bit harder but it does work with slow persuasion! The water is filterable and the traffic stopped after about 830pm. There are also the annoying black flies here too though.
