Description

Really unsafe place. After parking on the plaza in less than 1 minute we got 6 people with their hands on our vehicle!!!! the Municipal Police was just looking the other side..... To enter the church (no photo no video) they charge 25 pesos x person!!! A lot of youngsters with walky-talky radios ...mmmhhh... really strange!!! On the left side of the church there is the booth where to pay your entrance fee: the man there is very rude and does not look at you and when we ask him if he cares about tourists his answer was .. NO, I DO NOT CARE ABOUT TOURISTS !!! You are NOT welcome in this place!!! Don’t waste your time and money: let’s them to learn the hard way how to properly welcome tourists!!!

This village is absolutely incredible and completely atypical. Mayan culture and traditions are still very present. Women and men have very special clothes based on sheep wool. The church (entrance 30 pesos) is unique, a subtle blend of Catholicism and Mayan rites. In the church, a formal ban on taking photos, the floor is strewn with pine needles, thousands of candles are lit, flowers are installed everywhere. Here no bench, the families meet, squatting on the ground, install candles, pray and bless living roosters or bottles of coke. It is absolutely unique! On Sunday there is a lot of atmosphere and there is a superb market near the church. Not to be missed!
