Still open and basic campground, Christian the owner is very friendly, good place for low budget

Christian really is lovely and does his best to help, and the place is a great stop from which to visit Montevideo. The bus into town is easy and takes about an hour, and this is a quiet and safe place to camp, or leave the van while travelling elsewhere.
It's also true that the campsite is as basic as they come; the toilet is pretty gross and the shower is a bit better but still not great. If your van is totally self-reliant then this place will be totally fine. If you need bathrooms then come with very low expectations and you'll be ok ;)
Wi-Fi is great, and it's still 200pppn which is fair. Locals do come to use the bbqs during the day and play their music, but it's quiet at night and right on the beach so you can hear the waves; the beach isn't as nice as those further north, though.

As noted this is basic camping and at this time of year you can only camp in the lot at the back by the dunes His license for camping begins December 15th. No laundry service but there is an outdoor sink to wash clothes or dishes with potable water. Price is now 200 pp but since we wanted to stay 3 nights out of season, negotiated 150 as shower not working. Wifi very good near house. Cristian put up some poles and made a shade over our rig as there are no trees to park under back there. Very nice man who tries his best to help. Even asked if we needed anything when he went to supermarket.
NOTE: We flew home for 3 weeks and left our rig here. Cristian said two others had done it too. He charged 200 pesos a day. He gave us the number of a taxi to call to get there as we had to go early. Took an Uber back. All good but be aware of where you park if you need solar power while you're gone.

Although the campsite is extremely basic, the location is perfect. The bus into Montevideo stops outside, the supermarket is a short walk and the beach is mint. Christian’s hospitality is wonderful. We used his ok WiFi and electricity but used our own shower and toilet. Christian even did our laundry for 100 pesos for a 5kg load. No drier but washing line with pegs behind the house. For the price and location, it’s hard to beat.

Yes! It is super simple and basic, but is perfect for the price if you just need a safe and quiet place to park, relax, make repairs, etc. Cristian and his family are super nice and welcoming and are trying to improve the place to bring a better experience to the traveler. Today they installed WIFI. Toilet next the house is always clean and with TP, shower still cold, without door and dirty (leaves, etc).

On sunny days the beach is beautiful.

Next to the highway so some noise during the day (your car will not be visible).

You can take a bus to downtown in front of the campground: 36 pesos / 1 hour, or faster ones in front of Geant Supermarket.

For BIG RIGS: the first entrance is wider and without trees and you reach a flat parking area big enough to easily maneuver a school bus.
