At the last switchback corner is the sign board for Marca Huamachuco and there is a large area to park. After dark there is no traffic and the views are magnificent. The entry to the ruins is about 500m further up the track and there is also a parking area. There are no facilities here, but the ruins are worth the trip. Make sure you walk all the way to Sector Cerro de las Monjas.

the night guardia came to tell me it is forbidden to stay the night, but after giving some food and explain i was sleepingin the car, and showing the bed, he gave me his Phone number in case i needed anything at night, and told me he would be checking on me at night from above.
very nice old coca chewer man (mascador de coca)
Report Check-InWe slept directly at the parking of the ruins. There is a friendly guy guarding the site all night. We ask him, if it us ok to pitch a tent here. After a short confirmation of his boss everything was ok. The view is nice, but we had pretty bad weather. Quiet and peaceful place.
Report Check-InThis is the place to park, right next to the sign post on the last turn. Do not bother driving to the official parking area as it is not level and the view is not as spectacular. Ruins are still free.
Report Check-InThe caretakers of the site are very laid-back and welcoming. They said we could sleep right in the parking lot, but it was sloping too much so we moved down slightly to a nice flat spot with some grass looking over the city below. No wind, and great access for early morning walk in the ruins. The spot at the hairpin bend further down also looks good, although probably more windy.
Report Check-InVery nice place with a nearly 360C view. Amazing. Quiet at night. Cold at night because of wind.
Report Check-InFor fellows cyclists :
5km paved road and 4km gravel from Huamachuco. Steep uphill at parts but definitely doable without problems. You can leave the bikes secure at the entrance by the guard. We had left our panniers down in Huamachuco by our hosts.
The ruins are definitely worth a visit.
Wide pull-off towards the end of the switchbacks. The views of the valley and surrounding cliffs and mountains are stunning...when the clouds part. :-)
No facilities, but very quiet and conveniently located near the ruins.
Report Check-InWe camped one hairpin further down. Advantage: sunny from sunrise to sunset and even better views. /// Between this hairpin qnd the last one is a tiny parking in the trees on the right. Small but wind and sun protected. /// 300mts before our camp is a track heading downwards to a open spot in the bushes. This is the camp where you can hike best (but not completely). No night traffic on all camps.
