RUS -> KZ: Crossing the border took us 3 hours, a lot of waiting on both sides. Everybody was friendly and no problems.

RUS-KZ easy bordercrossing. It took us 1 hour.
When arriving in KZ, there are many possibilities to get insurance.
We payed 8880 Tenge (20€) for 15 days, 2 drivers in a Volkswagen van T4 at the first insurance company in the cafe right after the last border control.
You can pay with credit card or change money at the same door.
They also sell simcards (Beeline) for 600 Tenge (1,50€) incuding 2Gb of data and Social media (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram etc.) unlimited.

KAZ-> RUS Small border post, friendly on both sides. 1 hour 20 mins mostly waiting. You can buy carinsurance for Russia before you cross the border. We paid 3174 Rubel for 15 days and two drivers. Money change next door.

From Kz-->Rus very fast crossing at 10am on a friday. Took overall maybe an hour. Block dispatch for trucks and cars separately. All officials very correct on both sides.
As I arrived very late the night before I camped a little before the last village before the border (coordinates 55.096116,68.333755) with good beeline H+ coverage ~5km from the borderpost.

RUS—>KAZ, block dispatch for large vehicles, not very busy, yet slow. In total it took us less than 2 hours. Money exchange and insurance (if needed) directly behind the border.
