Description

FMM available right at border. Bank to pay fee on other side of road.

You can also go down the road to San Emiterio (31.637813, -112.809264) about 17 km south to aduana and get your tourist papers, no crowds.

TVIP can be had at Pitiquito, just south of Caborca (N30° 41.371' W112° 01.658'). You can't do BOTH at either place. Two stops, but easy and fast.

Be warned that when you drive from US to Mexico just after the crossing the speed drops from 90 to 40 (when you drive downhill) and straight after there is often a cop with a laser. We had to pay a fine and we decided to pay at the police station. So be warned!

Easy border crossing, they wave nearly everyone through. Park after you crossed the border and walk back to get your Tourist card, we filled out forms online and paid the 638 Pesos online, printed all documents beforehand. You need to get the documents stamped. Took us 10 minutes in total to cross the border.

Hello
we are a french family with our rv.
We make the good choice to cross the border here.
There was not a lot of people and all the paper was ok in 45mn.
We pay 558 pesos by person.
If you have pesos it seems cheaper than with dollars.
They don't take credit card.
And the police wait you just after when it's 40km/h max....it's true
If you have a vehicle you must go to the second point on Ioverlander to around 20kms.
Enjoy your trip.

Ça s'est super bien passé. Officiers pas très curieux, peu de questions. On a payé 6$/pers. et on nous a autorisés à 3 mois aux USA.

Get your tourist card here. There are 2 checkpoints as you cross, the first one is a very quick check underneath the shade cover, the second is 100ft past outside done by guys with machine guns. The second check is more involved, the guards were very friendly but it felt like they were doing Christmas shopping as they went through or vans. They took our walkie talkies and machete claiming they were illegal in Mexico... maybe the machete but not the walkies. The spot where you get your tourist card was in between the 2 checkpoints, it has a big tree in front of it. We paid 533 pesos per person for a 180 day tourist card.

Report Check-In

Sonoyta back to USA after just under 72 hrs in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico. No problems, v straight forward. When we went into Mexico no looking at or stamping passports. No recording any details, just where are you going & for how long + looking at van ownership document. We'd been told we could visit for less than 72 hrs without a TIP. On return trip the Mexican border staff wanted to check inside the van & take down our details. 10 mins queue for USA side in a Tues late morning. First looked at passports & visa & asked when we flew home + anything to declare. Not interested in our salads which I declared. (You can't take fruit, veg, meat or non hard boiled eggs etc back to the USA even if you bought it there.) Next border security staff had dog and looked at us briefly before waving us through. Didn't ask for any documents at all. No one wanted the van import documentation etc!

pay in pesos for a better rate. as described - park in the middle of the road and walk back to Immigration. only tourist card no TIP.

Return or obtain your FMM (tourist card) on the Mexican side. Park in the center between the in and out lanes and go to the building to hand your FMM. Don't forget that if you need to return your TIP and get the deposit refunded, you CAN'T do it here, the closest Aduana office being in Pitiquito.

Report Check-In

Extremely easy crossing.  No lines, no hassle.  MX immigration is on your right, immediately after crossing.  No parking area so you have to park in the middle of the street, half a block away.  Bring correct change (pesos) as no banco available.  While you can pay in dollars the exchange is terrible.
