Something not right?

Description

In an area with a number of potential camp spots, this requires a steep climb to a crest with some trees for shade and absolutely incredible views all around. There is evidence that people have camped here before, sadly there were a couple beer cans but otherwise clean, aside from some cow dung. This general area seems to include an open range (drive carefully), but is not private land. There is ample space for a number of vehicles/campers, however, getting up here will not work for RVs or anything towing a camper. Although, below there are spots with fire rings that would certainly work for rigs. I will check for an alternate route that may be less steep and update accordingly. Can get a little windy. Full bars Rogers LTE.

Beautiful views, even better with puffy cloud, weather. Small wildfires in the distance and a glacier too. Forest service officer stopped in and chatted briefly. stayed here several nights as one of the best. T-Mobile on Telus 5G.

Report Check-In

We chose not to climb the hill for fear the camper wouldn’t stay on the truck. Short hike up to the bald for the beautiful view. And T-Mobile worked on Bell 5G one and two bars.

We chose to camp in one of the many spots below for fear the camper wouldn’t stay on the truck, climbing the hill. Short hike up to the bald for the view.

4x4 only very steep rocky and bumpy. If you can make it to the top it’s beautiful if not there is a field right below the hill you can park. 5g Service with Telus. There are a few fire pits scattered in the area.

Awesome view indeed! Made it up the short steep part ok, but it seems there's another less steep access on the south side. Snow-free this time of year. Lots of camping activity sign down below, but clean up top.

update: rained overnight at this location had to take a different route out due to mud. Follow the blue track in the photos for the easiest way in our out. Still wouldn't risk it if rain is in the forecast.

Amazing location, worth the effort to get here. I followed the previous posters route and it worked well to avoid the hills. 2wd no problem in good weather. My GPS track was added to the photos with notes.

AMAZING location! I went a longer, much less steep, way to get here. I’ve included a photo of the route. Go past the turn off that goes to the base of the steep hill in the original post. Up a mile or so there is a rough road on the right with a sign tacked to a tree that says “Slough Road” - turn right here, then turn right again at every opportunity. The rough is rough, looks to be muddy in the wet season, and has some low hanging trees. Prob not good for big rigs or trailers. I did it in an AWD Ford Transit with no problem other than a few tree limb scapes on the roof. It was slow going, but absolutely, positively, worth the effort for this view!

Epic site on top of an open hill with 360 degree views. Sadly, we couldn't see much due to smoke from wildfires but we could see the 'layers' and silhouettes of the mountains. There are a couple ways to access the site from the road. Super easy in 4hi on dry terrain.

DO NOT RECOMMEND. I have a 4x4 vehicle and this was muddy and a horrible climb. Slipping and sliding, turned around the first chance I got and camped at the other spot very close by. Great views there as well and not as dangerous. ( attached photo: view of other location ).

As described, awesome spot. No litter today, thanks whoever cleaned up.
We made it up in a 2wd vanagon, but we're rear wheel drive and I let some air out the tyres to assist on the loose stuff. Worth the gamble, the top spot is magical. Looking forward to the stars tonight!

Absolutely awesome spot with fabulous views. One of the best we have found over 6 months in Canada! As the OP says, it's a very short but very steep climb up a dirt track, only 4x4 will make it up. If you can't make it to camp on the top, you can camp at the bottom (just off the road in a lovely flat open area) and walk up to the top for the views. The entry point is off Westside Road, just to the south-west of this point, easy to see as you drive past.
