June 29th, 2016 Bad bad off road

Our GPS took us this way from Monteverde to Lago Arenal. Bad idea. Stucked here with 4WD SUV. The road is in fatal shape, mudslides. Ends in the middle of nowhere. Continues only as a horse trail, despite our navigation urging us happily to go on.

June 23rd, 2016 Mal Pais beach north end

Good spot on the rock's edge, close to beach. Great sunset. Tons of light bugs in the night.

June 22nd, 2016 Playa Hermosa - South End

Nice place for one night as the beach is beautiful but absolutely not for swimming.

June 21st, 2016 Playa San Miguel - North End

This is awesome spot. Beautiful beach though during our stay the water was full of weird sticky orange foam, so decided not to stay longer. Pretty sure it was seasonal or one time thing.

June 20th, 2016 Playa Pitahaya

Nice place. Decided to park in front of the houses as it seemed that there is no one around. It was a good choice as by night there was quite traffic close to access road.

June 19th, 2016 Tamarindo Beach Camping (southern end of Playa Tamarindo)

Beautiful beach. Awesome spot close to town and all restaurants, bars and shops. Watch out for stingrays!

June 17th, 2016 Playa flamingo

This is one of the most beautiful and awesome beaches on Nicoya Peninsula. Beach is perfect pick for swimming, there is ton of places to hide in shade under the trees. There are some restaurants on both ends of the beach.

May 21st, 2016 Suchitoto

Parking around the park. Felt somewhat safe. Can be quiet during the week, on weekends there are two discotheques around: loud music, drunk people.

April 25th, 2016 Bruno's Hotel (Marina)

Paid 25qtz per car per night. Good showers and bathroom. You park under the trees so most of the day it's in a shade. Be prepared for hot nights and mornings, wind usually pick up around noon to bring at least some air movement.

April 16th, 2016 Augustine / Douglas d’Silva

Due to recent security issues, camping in this area is not recommended anymore. It seems that there have been reported robberies of travelers from guatemalan robberrs. There is a military station in the area trying to avoid any robberies on the way to Caracol - to stay perfectly safe join the convoy to Caracol at 9am at the station, soldiers are returning around 2pm.

April 8th, 2016 El Ultimo Maya

Best BBQ ribs! We had lovely fajitas too. The rest looked great asswell. Friendly stuff. Super cute chef's dog.

March 22nd, 2016 Blockades

We hit one before Ocosingo today. Very unpleasant feeling. Masked guys with nailed plank on the road. Practically whole village was sitting there and participating. They wanted 100 pesos but as we didn't have money we got away with 20.

March 22nd, 2016 Cascadas Agua Azul

We paid 30 pesos/person for the entrance. We assume that the fee changies on weekends.

March 20th, 2016 Rancho San Nicolas

Stayed for 2 nights. Campground and facilities good. Nice hot shower. WiFi not so much = mas o menos. Friendly owner.

March 17th, 2016 Hierve el Agua

Nice, quiet place. We were the only ones overnighting here. Lot of stalls to get dinner or breakfast. Have some cambio - the bathrooms are extra 3 MXP.

As said above. Parking lot was quite and safe.

February 14th, 2016 Nuevo Ixtlán

Beautiful hotsprings in the middle of Jungle.Paradise.
Coordinates were last 2km wrong, follow the signs.
We spent there 2 nights, camping for free, paying only for entrence 35$ pesos per person. Got beer and homemade food for very reasonable prices. Dirt road. 4x4 or at least high clearance suggested.
