Slept here with no problem. I didn't see portapotties but the pearl has public restrooms. It's super close to the The Pearl brewery which is a giant park and every Saturday morning they have a donation based yoga class right in front of the local coffeehouse.

July 27th, 2018 Nuevo Laredo, Columbia Crossing

If you're going from Mexico to the US the spot to cancel the TIP is a little shack right before you pay the toll. It's really hard to see - we drove by it and had to turn around at the U.S. customs. You don't need to pull off or park you just pull up like a drive thru on the left hand side. Other than that took us 20 minutes to get over the border, only cause we missed the TIP spot.

July 25th, 2018 Homeros Campground

Doesn't look like you can camp here anymore. All closed up. No one in sight.

July 23rd, 2018 parking of the municipal park

slept here for a night with no problem, quiet, clean, safe. toilets inside the park but they close around 9ish.

July 20th, 2018 La Hacienda Gomez

We really enjoyed this spot and we even hit it during the busy summer months. Lots of room to spread out, big grassy areas, definitely a spot you could stay for a couple of days and chill. The bathrooms/showers (luckily nobody was charging for the bathrooms) don't leave much to be desired but if you can see past that it's nice. One of the best (non beach) campgrounds we've come across in Mexico. It seems the prices have gone up than what previously posted we paid 150 total for camping and entry. We told her we were told it was different but said since its the busy season prices are higher. We stayed two days though and only got charged for one day. They do sell cold drinks and beers also some snacks but best to have your own supplies. So fun exploring all the different swimming holes on the property!

July 19th, 2018 Embarcadero La Morena/Tamul Falls

Cool expierence for sure. At first we weren't sure if we were making the right decision as it's summer and the busy/hot season, but we ended up really enjoying it. 20 pesos to park, then you put your name on a list with how many in your party and you wait until they can put you on a boat (240 pesos for 2 people). It turned out to be lots of fun, you splash around with all the other boats so you end up soaking wet the entire time which was welcomed in the heat. You stop at a cenote and you can opt to jump put of the boat and float/swim down the river for a portion of it. We could have camped with no additional charge where we were but since it was still hot we opted for paying 80pesos to camp down by the river, certainly the right decision. FYI the river is a bit muddy right now but we had tubes to float in.

July 14th, 2018 Polícia Turística

Parked on street out front from the police lot for two nights. Was safe and quiet, had no issues.

July 11th, 2018 Abandoned Toll Booth with Banditos

They tried to get more money out of us but we gave them the 72 and they let us go.

July 11th, 2018 Alvarado malecon

Parked here and slept for the night. Asked locals if it was safe and they said yes. Not a bad spot for a nights sleep.

July 8th, 2018 Todos Santos Cuchumatan Parquero

Interesting little town. Not much going on aside from expierencing total Guatemalan culture. The locals are so curious about you, we had so many people come up to us and chat. Very nice felt totally safe. A gorgeous drive up to the village and so interesting. We didn't find this parking lot but when we pulled into town we asked and we parked in a driveway (next to pharmacy and cellphone store) had a bathroom we could use all through the night for 40q total.

July 3rd, 2018 Angeli Gardens

Stopped but didn't end up staying as we needed Wi-Fi to make some calls back home and they didn't have any. It was a huge spot... if you eat $10 worth of food or beer you can stay for free but the restaurant was really pricey. Beer at the cervezaria was really good though.

July 3rd, 2018 La Madrugada

Stayed here for one night. Huge spot with tons of space for bigger rigs too. Super friendly as well. Unique spot in the big city, would recommend it.

July 2nd, 2018 Luna Jaguar Hot Springs

Had no issue with the road here, it was unpaved but we'll maintained and in the best shape out of all the roads we've encountered thus far. Worth the trek in our opinion. It's about 12 different natural looking hot spring pools in the jungle. Super peaceful and relaxing! We were there on a Monday night and also woke up first thing in the morning and had the place to ourselves. You park on a giant grassy lot.... one of the cooler hot spring expierence we've had in a long time. A little pricey but worth it to us.

July 1st, 2018 Thermas Balneario del Rio

Our expierence was a positive one, even for it being a weekend. It was definitely crowded but there are multiple pools to spread out in so its not so bad. The camping is towards the back of the property on a nice grassy field next to a covered picnic table area. It was 400L which was pricey, we tried to talk him down but he wouldn't budge. This was for sleeping and using the pools. In the morning there was no one there so we had all the pools to ourselves. They are well maintained and we thought this spot was awesome!! Worth a stop over.

June 28th, 2018 Palmira Hostel

This place was awesome! The hostel itself is huge and really kept up. Tons of hammocks to tuck away on and a beautiful terrace overlooking town. We were there with another overlander couple and we both parked right outside and felt totally safe. There is some one there 24/7 so you just buzz the door at any time if you need to get inside to use the bathroom. Hot showers big kitchen with tons of cooking appliances and the cutest pup named Maya ever! Centrally located and the owner is so friendly, great Wi-Fi too. Would totally stay here again.

June 27th, 2018 Villa Alejandra

Stayed here one night so we could tour some cigar factories nice spot as described charged us 250L, pool, Wi-Fi, cold shower, peaceful sleep. If interested you can tour Rocky Patel & Placencia cigar factory in El Paraiso for free.

June 26th, 2018 El Restaurante de Julio

The coordinates are off for this, Julios is a little further down the road across from the gas station. We stayed here as the touristo park was closed when we arrived. Owner is really nice, left the bathrooms open for us all night. As described picnic tables and hammocks, he even greeted us this morning with coffee! He charged us 250 total for 2 people... 3 minute walk into town.

June 25th, 2018 Park Touristico

tried to stay here but at 5:20pm it was all gated up and locked, nobody in sight.

June 23rd, 2018 D&D Brewery

Definitely worth a stop at if you're in the area we would have stayed longer but we thought we'd just drink too much Beer. A random spot in a tiny town, but good energy and cool vibes. You park in a giant grassy lot across from the brewery safe and quiet. D&D offers tons of different tours and are really knowledgeable on the area, they love Honduras and want you to have the best expierence possible. 75L pp to camp and about 55L for a standard 12oz beer. If you're into hiking, kayaking and beer this is the spot! Also really near coffee shop down the road also marked on iOverlander! Cheers!

June 22nd, 2018 Pulhapanzak Waterfalls

If you park up on the grassy field by the restaurant/cabanas you don't get the smelly cows, lots of flies though so it was really hard to cook. Good for one night, river was a little mucky, but the cabins looked really quaint and nice. The waterfall is beautiful but it's so built up around it looses it's luster a bit.

June 10th, 2018 Jungle River Lodge

Stayed here 3 nights... sweet spot but like mentioned in previous posts only good for small rigs. We were only going to stay 1 night and ended up staying 3, we did the rafting trip so we got one day of accommodations for free (otherwise it's $10) The rafting trip was a blast so glad we did it. We opted for sleeping in the truck even though it was a little hard to find totally flat ground. The hostel has two pools built into the rocks that you can wade in and keep cool all day while drinking beers, and it has an awesome jump spot from the rocks into the river below. The food was delish and cheap... national park is close by with cool hikes to some waterfalls.

June 9th, 2018 Grissy`s Hotel and Hostel

Stayed here for a night because other overlander spot was full. It's not bad.... the owner is really nice... still 300L but charges 40L pp for the pool. Showers are also cold outdoor showers, Wi-Fi works ok if you have basic things to do on the web. Ate at the restaurant too after a long day of border crossing and it was quiet good! Good spot for a night or two... right near the beach. Cold cheap beer a relief after coming from Antigua!

June 9th, 2018 Posada Del Mar

This place does exist and is open, it was hard to find as there is no sign on the road and we couldn't locate it on Google. It's directly next to the Hotel y Cabanas Playa Caribe... unfortunately we couldn't stay for the night as they were at max capacity. Normally they do allow camping we just struck out for a Saturday night. Didn't ask for prices either.... seemed like a chill spot right on the water.

June 9th, 2018 Cascada termal - hot Spring waterfall (+informal campsite)

This place was great, we went early in the morning thinking a "hot spring" would be too hot for any other part of the day. The only hot part is the waterfall, the rest of the water is a cool temp. It was the perfect combination of hot and cold and a great way to start the day, we were the only two people there.

June 8th, 2018 Playa, Lago Izabal

Super tranquil spot if you're looking for something with no frills. There is a pretty big palapa with working electricity too. It was really peaceful and the water in the lake was unusually warm too.

June 7th, 2018 Balneario Las Conchas

Stayed here for a night as a stop over, you park right outside the gate and we felt perfectly safe. The waterfall was a bit underwhelming, not sure if because of all the rain it's really brown right now, but we had just came from chemuc with blue crystal clear water....50qtz pp, we asked the guy if the bathrooms were open all night but the gate was locked.

June 6th, 2018 Posada Las Marias

Good spot for one night, super friendly and about a 8 minutes walk to the pools. The river was pretty brown so we didn't go in but the pools were awesome. Cold showers but it's so hot it felt great.

June 6th, 2018 Hacienda Ecologica Rio Escondido

Good for us for one night, we got a late start and found ourselves driving at night in a rainstorm. Our original destination was the quetzal park but they close the gates at 4pm.... at first this didn't look open but when we got out to investigate someone came and opened the gate. We literally used this as a safe place to sleep, there were toilets but it was a far walk and the guy didn't mention any showers. It did smell like pine trees we wanted to try and have a quetzal sighting so we left super early in the morning, we didn't look around.

May 5th, 2018 Lake Chicabal - NO SWIMMING

Made the trek to the trailhead of the lake and it wasn't SO bad we don't have 4x4... but have a higher clearance Nissan Frontier so we were able to get up and down but it was totally dry.... it wouldn't have been doable if we had any rain. As for the lake it's a nice hike up... mostly up hill until you get to the sign for the mirador... the lake is a very peaceful and spiritual place but it's not for swimming. Pack a lunch and enjoy!

May 4th, 2018 Hotel Las Cumbres - AMAZING!

Slept here for a night cost 100qtz per person that price includes bkfst the next morning and a 1 hr steam session. If you don't want the bkfst it's 75qtz pp. In our opinion the breakfast was worth it... it included unlimited coffee, fresh watermelon juice, breakfast cookies a small bowl of oatmeal plus your meal (you could choose from 5 or 6 options). The steam was a great added bonus... Def recommend this place but if you have a bigger rig it could be tricky to find flat ground.
